REX GRENADIAN
I am going to Grenada this January and am staying at the Rex Grenadian. Not that I can do anything about it now but I don't want to be disappointed. So I figure I could at least prepare myself for what to expect. How are the rooms- that bad? How are the resort grounds?

I haven't heard much about the Rex (on any forum). I don't mind that it is not on Grand Anse beach, in fact I actually prefer the seclusion from the peddlers and figure I can take day trips to that beach.

In spent my honeymoon this past August at the Renaissance in St. Thomas. It was GLORIOUS (and also secluded). I loved St. Thomas not because of shopping or night life because I'm not into that but because of the day trips available from there. ST. JOHN is out of this world beautiful but nothing compared to the Baths at Virgin Gorda. I hope having such a great time in the US/British virgin Islands doesn't ruin my time in Grenada. What do you think?

Any definite excursion to recommend? Thanks so much!

There shouldn't be a problem at all with the weather in Antigua in Nov/Dec. It is one of the islands that gets very little rain.

We were married at Sandals Antigua and it was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better weddingmoon. I am not one of those "Sandals Lovers" but this resort really has a great laid back and romantic charm to it. It has incredible landscaping, an amazing beach...and it's so peaceful and relaxing you can hear yourself breathe!! We have never enjoyed ourselves (or each other) more than on this vacation. There is plenty to do as far as land/water sports and at night they have entertainment (usually a steel drum band). They also have a beach party once a week. But what is so great is you can join in or do nothing at all! And the resort is like having your own Caribbean village to hang out in. We loved it!

And as far as the wedding, it couldn't have been more perfect. We had no stress what-so-ever. They took care of everything and it was SO beautiful. I can't really put the experience or the place into words to describe it well enough! We truly enjoyed it!

Congrats and enjoy where ever you choose to go! And if you have any other questions, or would like me to e-mail you pics, just let me know!

Heather
We were at the Grenada REx Grenadian in Jan. 99. The grounds are beautiful with lots of flora and a lovely pond with lots of fish. It has a building with pool table and a small fitness centre. The entertainment was very good with steel bands and lots of dancing. The rooms were fine. Clean and lots of hot water (which I think is important) The staff very friendly. The food was o.k. Only the buffet pool grill for lunch which had pretty well the same food each day, but it was good. Dinner was buffet each night except two nights a week you could eat in an area which was blocked off in the buffet restaurant and it was a la carte, but we had to pay if our meal was over a certain amount. The alcohol was still included. We ate there the two nights it was available. We actually complained because our brochure said that there was a la carte restaurants to eat in each night and we were able to order our dinner and they brought it to our table a couple of nights, but we felt kind of funny being served when everyone else was buffeting it. They also have a great path around the resort for jogging if you're up to it. The beach was not long, but very nice and the water was the warmest I've ever been in. Snorkeling right from the beach was great. I hope this helps.
Jennifer

Hi Heather! We were at the Renaissance in March this year too; we were up the mtn.; I counted the 116 steps to where we stayed in Bldg. 22...good cardio, tho!

Grenada is wonderful - the aroma of spice on the whole island greets you when you step off the plane.

The Rex is NOT a 5 star resort - do not expect this and you won't be disappointed (sounds like you realize this already, tho). However, the rooms are basic and clean, and the resort property is landscaped; there are even little ponds around stocked with turtles and water plants. The beach (altho not Anse Beach) is nice, but there's a spot on one end of the property that is rocky and not great for swimming; otherwise it's very nice.

I don't know if you realize this, but the resort is near the airport; this is not too much of a problem cause the noise is not typical of a huge airport like, San Juan, for instance.

The food is not 4 star dining, just filling and adequate; realize that service is slower than NYC service (typical of most of the Carib - you won't have a prob if you know this 1st hand). I would encourage you to check out the local flavor of Grenada's restaurants and folks.

You'll have a great time; just enjoy your vacation in a wonderful almost unspoiled island like Grenada, and let's hear from you when you get back.

Thanks so much for all of your replies. I'll let you know how it went when I get back.

Before I left for my honeymoon to St. Thomas I was told that I MUST take a trip to Virgin Gorda. The advice was right and was the best trip of my honeymoon.

Anybody out there with similar advice that is certain to be a blast on /off Grenada? (Perhaps a boating trip to a nearby island, snorkeling excursion etc?)

Thanks again! I'm so psyched that I found this site!
Heather

definitely carriacou, take a boat to sandy island where the snorkeling is great! when you get off the ferry ask someone to find you Snag, he's just down the road about 1 block from the docks and he has a cute bamboo bar and can take you on his boat to sandy island, barely 5 minutes away. he has snorkel gear too, and we had him pack us up a roti lunch with some carib beers and he dropped us off for 3 hours - the highlight of our trip!

didn't see the rex on our trip but we stayed at laluna. definitely stop by once while you're there, the restaurant is amazing!
