Restaurant recommendations for Turks and Caicos?

We will be in T&C next week, staying in Provo at the West Bay Club. We won't have a car ( I know that's a bad idea), but are very happy to walk most places, or take a cab. What would you recommend within walking distance or a short cab ride for both lunch and dinner? Thanks for your help!

First, get a car. Easy driving straight roads, ends up cheaper than taxi. You'll need one for the great restaurants. Actually taxi usually more, and have to play the waiting game, the depend on someone to call game, etc. I do not recommend walking at night around WBC except for next door to Gansevoort.

My favorites are coco Bistro and Bay Bistro, excellent! Most restaurants in Provo are some of the best in Caribbean.

Start with www.WhereWhenHow.com, click on either magazine or companion dining guide

Other favs are Coyaba, Caicos Cafe, Hemingways, Vix. I love lunch at Plunge at Regent Palms. somewhere On The Beach has excellent TexMex and live music some nights. Do not miss The Deck at Seven Stars when NaDa plays, it's magical, and the appts are excellent. da Conch Shack is an institution.

To add to the above list:
Mango Reef at The Alexandra is excellent.
Food at Gansevoort is NOT great!

blamona,

I'm assuming that the area around WBC is a little dicey at night, but OK during the day? We picked it because we love the beach and wanted a wider and less crowded beachfront than Seven Stars etc. seemed to offer. A mistake? Thanks for any advice!

Hemingway's at the Sands is a great place for lunch. Coco Bistro is great for dinner. Da Conch Shack, which needs a cab ride, serves great conch fritters. You'll enjoy TCI!

Perfectly delightful to walk during the day. At night it does become extremely dark with some small dicey areas, at night definitely need transportation for the best restaurants.

You did not make a mistake, WBC is awesome! Gorgeous! Best beds on island. Actually very luxurious for the money you paid with terrific management and close to off the beach snorkeling.

West Bay Club is a nice property on the more western stretch of Grace bay.
It is located next door to gansevoort and their restaurant bagatelle Bistrot. To me...this might be fun for a drink but I would skip it for dinner.
Short trip via cab to Turtle Cove and many choices including Magnolia.
You can walk to SomeWhere via the beach at Coral Gardens (TexMex).
Getting a car from the likes of Grace Bay Car Rentals would be a good thing to do to venture off the property to sight see and dine.
I love Bay Bistro, Mango Reef,Coco Bistro,Caicos Cafe to name a few.
Also having a car will aloow you to go to a resort with live music and there are 3-4 different performers on the island to enjoy.
When you arrive on island pick up a copy of the new Dinning Guide and Where,When How for information.
Available at the airport where you pick up you checked luggage and resorts and grocery stores.
Have a great trip!

Hi Weadles, I've been living in the TCI since Jan 2010, and although I haven't been to the WBC, I'm sure you will have a wonderful time here. The weather is great, and there the restaurants that were recommened are all very good. There's not much shopping here, but plenty of watersports, and the beaches are fabulous!! Try snorkelling in front of Coral Gardens, it's near where you are staying and you don't need a boat to get there!! I hope you have a wonderful time!! P.S My favorite part of Grace Bay is --all of it!!! try Emerald Point for total privacy!!!

caribbeanlivin and sunblockstock, Thank you so much! So looking forward to this vacation. Don't care at all about shopping. Just want a beautiful beach, snorkeling, some decent food, and enough $$ to move there ( only half-kidding after all these storms that have plagued the East Coast!).

Weadles,
Based on that I guarantee that you won't be disappointed!! Hey, maybe I'll even see you on the beach. My fiance and I usually walk from Royal West Indies (there's public parking there) to Beaches and back, daily. Your resort is further down, but hey y ou never no. In any case looks like the weather will be great so enjoy!! By the way, I'm originally from the East Coast, so I know what you mean with the weather!! Enjoy!!!

caribbeanlivin,

Beer's on me if you find us! And is there a particular TCI beer that we should ask for? Always enjoy trying local foods/drinks. Thanks!

Weadles,
I'm not much of a beer drinker, but Turks Head is the local beer, and I hear it's pretty good. CHEERS!!!

caribbeanlivin,

So funny! Just read about favorite beers of the Caribbean on AOL News! Thanks for the info. I'm not much of a beer drinker, either, but I do like to try the local cuisine/drinks.

weadles, Cool! As far as cuisine goes conch is the specialty,or the catch of the day, and if you don't care for beer, Bambarra is the local rum. In any case, this island isn't cheap, but you'll find the best prices for liquor at the Wine Cellar on Leeward Hwy. See you on the beach!!! What day are you arriving?

caribbeanliving,

We really love conch soup. We'll have to try the TCI version and report back to Anthony Bourdain. We're arriving Friday afternoon. I hope the police won't arrest us for being so pale!
Seriously, thanks for all the great information!
