Rental Cottage on Coral Bay, St. John
After perusing the VRBO listings, we like the looks of a new place called Blue Caribe, vrbo #148976.
However, it seems to be brand new and has no comments from previous renters. We are trying not to be cynical and not assume that there is a chance of a scam and that our deposit money will vanish, but shall we take a chance? We called a rental car company and two restaurants in Coral Bay, but no one has heard of the place.
I think we will phone the owner and ask for references, any other ideas?

Having just reserved a rental in Coral Bay, Blue Caribe appears to be a very attractive option. The availability calendar only shows a week available in each month from December to February.
Good value both in season and off.

I'm also looking into renting on VRBO St. John...there's one I like #146033.
It's quite a bit less after April....so...
can anyone tell me:
1) is Coral Bay a good location?
2) is May or June good time to go?
The hot tub on the one you posted would be nice. I would love an outdoor shower...sounds cool, but can't find. LOL.
Although I love going to a swim up bar and getting a foo foo drink...so not sure if this is what I'll do or not.
We love to snorkel and explore and have good meals. It's a yearly trip without kids and just having each other's company and peace is perfect.
Thanks.
Trish

We just returned from a week in Coral Bay. We also had some concerns about our villa, but it turned out just great. The island is so laid-back and visitor friendly, I really don't think anyone is trying to scam anyone. Our place was wide open and we also did not have A/C so we never closed the wood doors but slept with unlocked screen doors letting in the breezes. It felt strange at first but we relaxed into it and it was wonderful. Really a beautiful island and your villa looks perfect.
The roads take some getting used to, but at least almost all are paved and the speed limit is 20mph. You'll love it! I will be writing a trip report soon about our great snorkeling, etc.
