Renovations at Caneel a problem?

I heard that they are doing some renovations at Caneel. I heard that rooms were being updated (a good idea), and that the Caneel Beach Terrace was being re-done as well. Has anyone been there recently? Have these renovations already be completed? Are they ongoing? If so, are things a mess? Or are they planned to start soon? We love Caneel, and we're considering another trip there in May/June timeframe. I'd hate for our trip to be spoiled by the work being done. Any info on the renovations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was there in October; although extensive renovations were being done on some rooms at the time, we really didn’t notice because they were only doing work on the Garden and Courtside rooms and guests weren’t being booked anywhere near the construction.
While talking to the staff, I was told all the rooms would eventually be renovated over a few year period and even a full service spa is being planned. If I had to guess they might hold off until Fall (off season) for the next round of room renovations.
They also did mention the entire beach bar area would be renovated, but they did not expect that to be finished until next fall.
If I recall correctly they were moving the bar to the breezeway area off the lobby and making what is now the bar area, a dining area.

We are booked for mid June.I was told back in August by someone at Rosewood that they were going to update the rooms starting in the fall and finish in the spring. Who knows what will really happen. FYI...Very few, if any of the recent reviews on tripadvisor mention anything negative about the renovations.

Thanks very much for the info. It is good to hear that the renovations are not an issue so far. It would be great if people who stay at Caneel over the next few months continue to update this thread with the renovation activities. I will certainly post an update if I end up going back in few monthts. Thanks again.

I stayed at the Hawksnest rooms at Caneel Bay recently (late November/early December).

There were some renovations going on at Hawksnest, but it didn't bother us. First of all, we weren't in the room that much during the day while the work was being done, and secondly, the rooms that were being worked on at the time were at the other end of the row from us.

The Caneel Beach Terrace was being renovated, but it wasn't a problem for us.

valerie: thank you very much for the info. can you tell me more about the renovations being done to the Caneel Beach Terrace? were they still serving food and drinks there? most of our after-dark times is spent there, so if it were not open that would be a bummer. thanks again.

Just to be clear, the area that was under construction when we were there was actually called the "Sunset Terrace" which was up a set of stairs, right near the Caneel Bay Bar.

The Beach Terrace Dining room was open and the Caneel Bay Bar was open. We ate lunch every day in the bar area and it was open throughout the evening for food, as well as drinks.

Hope that helps.
