My wife and I are headed to St. Thomas for a 8 nights and are having a difficult time choosing between these resorts (I know there are others but I am getting these nights for free from Marriott). Both seem nice however, Renaissance sounds like it is older and in a better location while the Reef sounds like it has more to offer and can be more secluded. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Renaissance or Frenchman's Reef?

I would choose Frenchman's Reef--it has a small, but much prettier beach, with an absolutely stunning view. IMHO, Renaissance's beach is awful!!!! Others may tell you Renaissance is better because of it's location (closer to town of Red Hook and ferry to St. John), but for strictly hotel & beach, I'd pick Frenchman's Reef.
Just came back from 5 nights at the Renaissance. Stayed for free on Marriott Rewards points. We picked the Renaissance over Frenchman's Reef/Morningstar because of its proximity to St. John and the BVIs.
We were not crazy about the resort. The rooms were spacious, but seemed like they could use a little renovating. The beach area was decent but no one swam in the water. Nearby Coki Beach is much prettier, but beware that you walk through a pretty run-down area to get to it. The pool looked nice -- never went in because the water was too cold.
Basically, comes down to what you plan on doing on your vacation. If you mainly want to relax at the resort, sounds like Frenchman's Reef would be the better choice.
If you plan on doing more exploring/island hopping the Renaissance might be better for you. There are quite a few good restaurants on the East End.
Can't speak to Ren. but FR has a great water taxi into Charlotte Amalie during the day. If accessibility to Red Hook and ferry is important, you might also check into Ritz- they honor Marriott points too.
