Real Estate investment

This year I'd like to purchase a small house, or maybe a vacant parcel in the Caribbean. Before I contact Real Estate agencies, I wanted to see if any fodorites had any info, or could share some personal experiences. I'm not "wealthy"- I would like something that I might be able to rent and then spend some time there. Probably oceanfront would be out of my range, something with just a view would be fine. I was told that Antigua had some "reasonable" investment opportunities. Any other suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Antigua can be a long flight and the rental ops sketchy. Check www.treasurebeach.net/Where to Stay/Land for Sale section for good opps, closer. The Bay Islands off Belize
and Bocas del Toro area of Panama as well as both Caribbean and Pacific coasts of Costa Rica might prove more fruitful searching but beware the sales-huckster cheap junket land for saletrips in Central American area..

tivertonhouse- thanks for the website. A co worker loved Belize and the islands so I'll definitely check that out.

Hi, I own a beautiful piece of land in Antigua overlooking Falmouth Harbour. It is .24 of an acre, and is located in English Harbour. If you were to put a house on this piece of land, you would have no problems renting it as English Harbour caters to the big yachts from all over the world that come to Antigua between November and May. It would be your choice in the summer months to continue renting the house, or keep it for your personal pleasure. The price of the land is US$50,000.00. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I could also put you on to a building company that could build you a beautiful strong home for a very reasonable price.

Regards
Michael Gordon

Michael- That sounds very nice. Is it far from the water/beach? I would be satisfied with a modest 3 bedrm. cottage and would like to hear a ballpark price from a builder- can you recommend one. Thanks so much.

Hi, you are less than five minutes from the nearest beach, and there are three other beaches within ten minutes. All of these beaches are lovely beaches. There is a supermarket three minutes away, and a large number of restaurants within ten minutes away. All utilites are available on sight with access by a good concrete road. Also, the surrounding houses are of a high standard. You can contact Linda at Antech 268 481 4601/2 or [email protected] for quotes on building you a 3 bedroom cottage.

Have a good day
Michael

I know about a hotel, which is being redeveloped at the moment, check www.oldeyardvillage.com, it offers condos on Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands.
