Rainforest Question: Better to do a Tour or go on your own?

I definitely want to see the El Yunque rainforest but wondering if it's worth it to hire tour guide for it? I had originally thought of doing a zip line but I want to see the waterfall especially and also all these excursions are adding up, pricewise.

Anyone have suggestions for the rainforest?

Thanks!

We went on our own and enjoyed it. But we usually prefer not to go on tours so we can go where we want and spend as long of a time as we want.

Thanks Shanti!

If I don't go with a tour guide, that means I'll have to rent a car to get to the rainforest. And I really don't want to rent a car in San Juan.

I really appreciate your response.

I have been on my own and with a friend who lives there and knows all the plants, animals, etc. It was so much more interesting being there with someone who explained everything I was seeing.

You're welcome!

We rented a car and drove around a bit. But if you don't want to rent a car then I would think that you'd have to go on a tour. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about tour companies - good luck!
