Question for Seasoned Anguilla Travelers

Okay, after 3 years I have finally decided it's time to visit the caribbean again.

My situation:
Will need to travel with a 1 year old baby plus hubby and need a location that's laid back and not too challenging for the little tyke. Been to Jamaica numerous times and prefer not to take my 1 year old there...not yet.

Is Anguilla suitable for the baby? If not is there an ideal island suitable for such a young child? At his age I'm afraid the beach (would love to dip the little one in the beautiful blue water)and some easy touring is all we will be able to handle.

Situation #2: My budget is not that of the Cap Jaluca crowd. Looking at Ferryboat Inn which has apartments that look interesting and are not expensive. If any one can shed some light on this place. Are there other places that are nice and are reasonable? I don't need luxury.

Open to all suggestions. Please let me know if Anguilla is or isn't appropriate to take such a young child.

Try Shoal Bay Villas or Mandearim on Shoal Bay. The beach at Ferryboat isn't too much & the area is getting a little dicey. Shoal Bay is reasonable & the beach is very nice & calm with sparkling white sand (even for a little guy) - also look at Blue Waters. http://hotels.ai has web sites for these & other hotels & lists them by price category.

I think Mary is right in recommending the Madeariman Reef Hotel. We visited it, and it seemed a typical place for families with young children. Wonderful location, right on the beach. Basic but clean and very nice.

Thanks guys, I will look into both Shoal bay & Mandearim S.B. I will be travelling off-season (late summer) so I should be able to find a decent deal with one of these places.
Regards, Andrea.

Madeariman is the correct spelling. web site is www.madeariman.com. They do not have a pool. If you go in the summer you will want a place with A/C. Not sure they have it. Think Shoal Bay villas has one suite with A/C. Shoal Bay Beach Hotel (www.shoalbaybeach.com has four with A/C and a lovely pool. You might check out Carimar Beach Club-www.carimar.com. No pool or restaurant but on Meads Bay Beach which is great. You can rent a portable a/c for the bedroom. Also check out Cocoloba--www.cocolobaresort.com. Just reopened under new management. Suspect you could get villa for about $125/night. All villas do not have TV's yet but all have A/C and minifridges. Nice restaurant and pool. direct access to Barnes Bay Beach and a short walk to Meads

Hi Andrea! Don't know what time of the year you are planning to go, but check out the Carimar Beach Club. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen, including a microwave. The units do not have ac, but for $10 a day you can have a unit installed in the bedroom. No pool, but right on Meads Bay which is usually very, very calm. I believe the website address is www.carimar.com/ I don't think the website does the place justice. Good luck with your search.
