Pusser's Marina Cay in BVI?? Anyone know of it???

I am planning a honeymoon, and I found this small
island hotel called Marina Cay. I cannot find any
information on it though. I have talked to them, and they seem nice.

I want to know if anyone has been here, or knows if it is reputable or not. Please help me if you can.

Thanks in advance.

Gary

Gary - Marina Cay is a beautiful little island located near the Beef Island airport in Tortola.
The Pussers people purchased it a few years ago and have turned it into quite a nice resort, although outside of the restaurant/bar and gift shop, there is little else there. Are you planning on doing any sailing while there? Or snorkeling, diving, etc.? If you're looking for a quiet & romantic place, this should fit the bill. Any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Hi
We were also planning a honeymoon, but insist on a beach that you can swim at. In their brochure, it doesn't look like they have a beach, more like a "drop off". Does anyone know what kind of beaches there are here? Thanks
Dan

Gary, Marina Cay is pretty but there is nothing to do there. It's a nice place to visit for a meal though. You might want to try one of the small places on Jost Van Dyke or Cooper Island. Both have beaches and both are very quiet.

Harriet

We have been to Jost Van Dyke, a smaller
island off Tortola. It is just beautiful,
and quiet. It is very rustic so be prepared
for this but as long as you don't mind doing
nothing but laying on a beach and swimming with
beautiful fish, as well as eating incredible
food, you will love it! Good luck!

Pussers are the people that make Purssers Rum and they are very reputable. We have been there before they purchased the island and they must have made major improvements. Your first poster gives you good information. There is not much to do there but it is a lovely spot. Watching the boating people and those that other come over for dinner can be fun. You can swim and it is quite shallow. The snorkeling is minimal but there are a few fish around. The price is right and the food is apt to be good. I think you have ready transportation to Tortola. You are however at one end of the island and a long way from most places. If they can get you a rental car on the main land, you can spend a pleasant day exploring. If you are adventuresome, you can start at Marina Cay and then go to Jost Van Dyke which is off of the other end of Tortola. We have been there also. It is another place with little else to do but it has lots of sand.

First, the island is tiny, I mean really tiny. Second, the beach is fair at best. But worse is that there are many other cays and isles within a few miles. If you don't have a boat to leave Marina Cay(aka Jose Cuervo Island) you will be bored silly in about 2 hours and wondering how to get off this sandtrap and get to one of those other isles where you hope more is happening. JMHO Good Luck

I agree mostly with post #1. The island is very pretty with a couple of rooms for accomodations up a small hill. I would recommend it for a visit or max of a couple of days maybe. There is only one restaurant (Pussers)and not much else to do. The beach is small but swimmable. The other problem is that you will be very far from everything on Tortola which is primarily on the West End (other side-1 hour drive). We stayed on West End and after seeing as much of Tortola as we could we went over to Marina Cay for the day. There is a regular free ferry running between Marina and Beef Island on Tortola. My wife and I had said to ourselves that it would be nice to stay for maybe a weekend before you will probably want more to do. Unless as honeymooners you plan on staying indoors for the entire time, consider somewhere with more activities or closer to our things to do.

I think you already get the jist of things from other posters. Bottom line, we found it very tiny and could find no reason to stay there in view of all the other choices available at competitive prices. West End which is literally the west end of Tortola offers numerous better options imo. In order of preference top to bottom: Frenchman's Cay, Ft. Recovery, Sugar Mill, and Long Bay. All have websites accessible through bviwelcome.com and other caribbean websites. We have been to Frenchman's 4 times and find it tops in the BVI for mid-range resorts. It happens to also beat a few of the pricier resorts. Strong points are: spacious accomodations, killer views, laid back atmosphere, great restaurant, friendly and courteous management, and good variety of packages. All in all, for the money, you get terrific value. We never felt we paid too much for anything there. Very strongly recommend the packages that include 4WD. This offers the possibility to do many beaches. Another advantage of being on the west end is that you are close to the USVI and the west end ferry leaves frequently for the 40 min ride over to St. John or St. Thomas, literally making your vacation a vacation to 2 countries, not one. Feel free to write me direct if I can help.
