Punta Cana vs Santo Domingo, differences?
We stayed in Santo Domingo before and did tourist attractions within two days. Also the beach was pretty far, we relied on taking unofficial vans to shuttle buses to get to Boca Chica. However the night life was pretty cool, we use to go to AV. Venezuela to dance even though on some nights it was a little deserted.
Lately we been thinking about going to Punta Cana, however we are worried that we will have the beach but not the night life since we love to dance especially to Latin music. If it matters we are a group of four single people (mixed gender, 28 - 33). Any shared experiences would be great! Thanks!

Punta Cana (to my understanding, I've never been) is an area built for tourists with resort hotels on the beach. I don't think there's a town there? People always talk about "not leaving the property". So any dancing would be something that the resorts put on for the tourists I think.
(I have been to the DR but many years ago, and only to Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata and Sosua.)

We stayed in Punta cana and if you want to be close Santo Domingo that would not be the area. We did visit the city on an all day bus tour from the resort we stayed at in Punta Cana. It was very far away. I would think that you would want to stay someplace on a beach resort closer if you want to venture out there for night life. No there was no city to go to and leaving the resort was not recommended at all while in Punta Cana. This was many years ago so perhaps it has changed.

We stayed at a friend's 'golf villa' at Casa de Campo in October a few years ago. I think it was about 45 minutes' drive, via hired car, from the airport. It cost $90 + tip each way.
On the property, most homes provide a golf cart for getting to the private beach. We also had a car and our friends showed us polo grounds, golf courses, walking paths, the large clubhouse and the restaurants.
I know there are rentals advertised VRBO and otherwise.
There are interesting shops and restaurants at nearby Altos de Chavon, which is on a bluff overlooking the river. We also took a one-day river trip, on a small boat with one guide.
