Punta Cana-- thing to do and safety
Hi, I am considering travelling to Punta cana.
would appreciate your advise on:
1) Besides the beach and water activities, are there other things to explore- cultural/historical?jungle?
2) is it safe?
I visited Cancun last year and Chichen Itza was my favorite excursion-- I enjoy a vacation with a mix of leisure and culture. Are there any places, if not Punta Cana, that you could recommend for such a trip?
Thx so much!

1) There is nothing cultural within striking distance of PC-nothing.
2) The area is "safe" but outside the walls of the resorts life is pretty grim.
The DR does have some historical/cultural features but they are not anywhere near PC.
Try Belize

About 8 years ago my husband and I went to Punta Cana. I would expect it has changed dramatically but at the time there was little to do besides the beach. There was an all day excursion into Santo Domingo the city. It is a long ride, it includes a lunch. It is full of history, and you tour some homes. Lunch was included, and shopping. We went there to break up the week.
