Just saw a great price for a return flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico in October. I read that this is the rainy season. How bad is the rain, all day everyday or just a few sprinkles throughout the day?
Also, what is there to see in San Juan (old town? beach? nightlife?).
Thanks for any info!

I have not been to PR in October, but have gone to St. John several times in october. One year we had two days of all day rain. That was the worst we experienced, and it was our first of six trips. Most of the time we have lovely weather. There may be a rainstorm on one side of the island, and the sun shining on the other. Most often it is a passing shower that lasts 10 - 15 mins. This is usually a welcome relief, because it is very hot.
It is hurricane season however.... one of the years we did not go, Otto hit at the time that we would have been on island. Buy trip insurance.
It is hurricane season. Most of the Caribbean Islands have very cheap prices. The later you go in October, the less chance of hurricanes
If you check out the averages for precipitation, October is around 5.5 inches of rain for the entire month. This is pretty consistent with the average rainfall from June through November. While you could get all day rain, more likely you will get some showers and sun mixed in.
To answer your question about what there is to do in San Juan - yes to all three - Old San Juan has the fort, historical sites, lots of restaurants and nightlife. The beaches in the San Juan area are decent but not the best of the Caribbean or even the best of Puerto Rico. I prefer the beach at Isla Verde to the beach in Condado.
In addition, there are any number of activities you could do from touring the rain forest, to ziplining, to snorkeling (these all are outside of San Juan but doable day trips).
