I'd like to hear what the island of Provo is like. I hear it's not very crowded, how modern is it, what are the people like,is there much to do other than diving. Any information supplied would be appreciated as we have an oppotunity to go there in August. Thank You.

I'm surprised nobody has answered you Wayne...Provo is quite and there is basically nothing to do. Few shops, nice places to eat, but there wasn't much in the way of entertainment or places to go. If you just want to relax and chill, it's great, but if you have to be active and be entertained, go somewhere else.

<BR>I have travelled all over the Caribbean as part of my job, and Provo is by far the best island, friendliest people, least crime.modern amenities,the only thing lacking is the lush foliage that some other islands have. And with only 6000 residents its not unusual to have a beach all to yourself. Enjoy,

Any suggestions on resorts. I am looking for something that can satisfy all ages especially a three year old. Anyone have any experiences with renting a condo or villa? <BR>How is the island price wise? Food? Merchandise from the local merchants? <BR>Sorry for all the questions but am planning a trip end of August and have not heard alot about Provo until recently. <BR>Any input is much appreciated. <BR>My agent is pushing us in the Sandals/Beaches direction for a resort...

Donna, I've not been at Sandals/Beaches, so I can't <BR>comment on that choice. However, I did stay at the <BR>Club Med and enjoyed it very much. I have heard <BR>that food can be very expensive on the island, so <BR>perhaps you are best advised to stay at an <BR>all-inclusive resort like Club Med. <BR> <BR>I'm sure you will look Turks & Caicos no matter <BR>where you choose to stay! <BR> <BR>Laura

Just returned from Turks & Caicos, where I stayed at Beaches. The resort was well kept...food good...friendly natives...but the hotel has been overbooking lately. There were no rooms left for the typed booked, so two of us stayed in an inferior room, while two were sent to another hotel down the beach. Any time I was at the front desk, there were people complaining about the rooms they were in. By day three we were finally given the rooms we paid for and things got better. However with the charter flights coming from N.Y. and Philadelphia, the place was packed. The worst part was the high volume of infants, who really disrupted breakfasts and lunches with their screaming. Some people even had kids in the pool with dirty diapers. Although Beaches advertises "adults only" restaurants also, you had to wait hours to get a table. We had a day between outgoing and incoming charters and the resort was much more bearable. However the island offers the best snorkeling and beaches I've ever seen in the ten other Carribean islands I've visited. If night life is not important, T&C is highly recommended. Sport fishing (bone and deep sea) was very enjoyable. The golf course was not very challenging but would pacify most golfers. We plan to return but will stay at Coral Gardens or Grace Bay next time. <BR>

Re: Provo, If you took the best things from all the caribbean islands and mixed them together, you would get Provo. Except for the lack of lush foliage <BR>it can't be beat.

I have also traveled to some other Caribbean islands and Provo is still my favorite. We stayed at the Turquoise Reef Hotel. It was not the most beautiful but was very ample. The beaches there are the best I have ever seen and the diving and snorkling are the best. Yes it is true that the island is not very lush but the water is so crystal clear and the most beautiful color I have ever seen. Can't wait to return. Lucky you.

Thanks to all. I am really looking forward to this trip now. This will be our first trip to the Carribean. Let's hope that the Beaches hotels behaves itself and does'nt overbook. If it does a hurricane will look mild compared to my fury... <BR>Cheers.

All the agents push for Beaches because it's soooo expensive they get a healthy commission from booking it. You can go away twice for what it costs to stay at Beaches ONCE.

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!! <BR>We have been entertaining the thought of this property for a few months but couldnt find ANYONE who'd been there and could attest to the Kiddie situation - the one issue that worried the heck out of us ! <BR>Thanks to you, we'll likely try another Jamaican or St. Lucian Sandals property instead!!!! <BR>There is hope though - apparently the Sandals chain is considering turning the property into an adults only over the next year or so.

Beaches in Provo has ALREADY BEEN a Sandals. I agree about the screaming children, we encountered that in April in Bonaire. Good luck, they are everywhere!LOL

People that really get annoyed being around children <BR>(even well behaved one's will Scream now and then) should go to an adults only resort that dosn't allow them. I have just booked a trip there and have paid alot of money to take my children with us, and yes they do scream now and then. <BR> <BR>Judy & Jack with kids.
