Priceline for Provo?

Has anyone used Priceline to book a 4* resort in Provo? They list Somerset and Windstar for their 4 * properties that you can book directly....but I'm not sure that's what you'd get when you name your own price. If you have used them, please tell me what property you got and at what price. Thank you!

I've never used Priceline for Provo.
I don't think there's really a bad place to stay in Provo, and i've stayed at Windsong and Somerset, both are lovely, but in different locations.

I just did a quick check and everyone asks your same question with no history of bids to report of. (It seems that people end up going through vrbo or other channels....)

It does seem clear, however, that the 3* listed is the Comfort Suites. Good luck and please report if you do give this a try. blamona is surely right that any 4* is going to to be nice but I wouldn't expect really low bids to work in Provo and would expect better results trying to negotiate prices with private owners.

blamona,
I followed your advice from earlier posts and have booked a courtyard view studio at the West Bay Club (book the cheapest room at a great resort) for $300 a night.

If I can negotiate an oceanfront 1 bed condo at Villa Renaissance for about $400 a night, do you think that would be a better option? Right now, I'm being quoted about $500 a night.

fishee, Thanks so much for checking that out on better bidding....I've been studying that site and haven't quite figured it out yet. I just decided I didn't want to take a chance on where we stayed.

Some islands have agreements with places like Priceline, expedia, etc. Provo in general is not one of them.

I'm confused, did you "negociate" that price at WBC? That's their normal rack rate, and directly on their website are offering 4th night free, and then in April 4th and 7th night free-that brings the nightly to $225 and $214 respectively. Sometimes they throw in other things too, such as 1 day car rental, spa treatment or a dinner.

In Provo I personally like dealing with the resorts directly, better chance at changing/cancelling, etc. A place like Priceline, something goes wrong, too bad.

vrbo.com has other properties for less than the resort, but also know you're dealing directly with the owner. Sometimes this means you can't use the amenities, sometimes you can, so make sure to ask. (for ex. daily cleaning? breakfast?)

As for which resort is better/worth it? Both are lovely. There is no general answer, without knowing more about you.

It bother's me Priceline considers Comfort Suites a 3*, Somerset a 4*, they are world's apart! CS is more like a 1* in my opinion, so I personally don't get it! Nothing wrong with it, but definitely not a 3* in my opinion.

As far as Provo is concerned, I personally have not seen a place like Priceline save you money.

blamona,
No, I didn't negotiate that rate with WBC...it is their rack rack, but they aren't offering the 4th night free (in March) with the studio rooms. I did book directly with them.

I was referring to possibly negotiating with the owner at Villa Renaissance.

my opinion only, while it doesn't hurt to ask, March you'll be hard pressed to negotiate, especially the $ you're trying to negociate.

PS why wouldn't you get a 1 bedroom at WBC, it does qualify for 4th night free, brings the price to $371, so less than you're trying to negotiate VR? You're getting the ocean front balcony, and breakfast included--just had to ask!

blamona, WBC is out of standard 1 bed oceanviews in March...I did ask to be put on a waiting list.

We could stay at the Turks & Caicos Club in a 1 bedroom poolside with a terrace (1700 sq ft room) for $445/night with full brkst (that's inclusive of 5th night free price)

or the Somerset has a standard gardenview room (no terrace) with the 5th night free for $400 a night (260-280 sq ft)

or the Regent Grand has a studio pool view, no terrace (419 sq ft) for $317.85/ night.

I really would appreciate your opinion as to what the best choice would be. This is an "extra" vacation for us so that's why I don't want to spend top dollar...yet, a prime beach location with lovely surroundings is important. We prefer a quieter, luxurious beach experience but don't need over the top luxury service. Also need a beach with umbrellas since my husband has to be careful in the sun. I'm a foodie, but the hotel itself doesn't have to have the best restaurants because we're willing to drive to them.

Thanks again for your great recommendations!

Bid Priceline a lot no good Provo deals on BetterBidding.

www.cheapcaribbean.com

www.booking.com

Expedia/AARP tend to have what discounts there are

not much in high season on the good properties.

www.vrbo.com sometimes good deals also...

Happy Hunting,

Somerset is one of my favorites, but not the smallest rooms, kinda a disservice to it

Unfortunately "best" is relative. First and foremost, there really isn't a bad place to stay, it's a modern gorgeous beach destination.

Regent Grand is gorgeous, but has no real amenities as other resorts do-I consider it a little more self-catering.

T&C Club feels like a beautiful bed and breakfast. My only negative is the bathrooms seem a little outdated, but who spends time in the bathroom on vacation! ;-) They recently closed for renovations, possible they redid them, but you'll have to ask to make sure.

Try www.ascentDestinations.com They cater mainly to Canadians, but I have seen terrific specials from them for West Bay Club and Seven Stars.

You can also read reviews on this forum for the different resorts, which by the way, I wrote! and read User reviews under them.

qwovadis and blamona
thanks for the sites...I checked them out and haven't found anything better. I also took a hard look at Ocean Club West because people seem to think they're a great value.

But, it looks like I'll stick with the studio at West Bay Club. I really wanted to find an oceanfront or view unit for $400 or less in a decent place, but guess it's not meant to be.

Thanks for all your help.

Did you try Ascent Destinations for a 1 bedroom at WBC? If not, ask for the manager, although it is possible they're are booked for the 1 bedroom, it's a terrific special!

Yes, I did try them but they just had the studio as well. I was lucky to get even that because WBC had nothing for my first date request. Thanks for getting back to me again. Maybe there will be a cancellation and I can get a 1 bedrm.
BTW, I love your write-ups for Fodors...great job to have!
