We took the Capital Coach line bus from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti to Santo Domingo, DR. Here are my observations. We purchased tickets at the Petionville station for that day (bus leaves at 8:30 to Tabarre and from Tabarre at 10am). I would recommend buying tickets in advance if possible because the bus to SD was very full. In Tabarre, we checked in and paid $10 (they write your seat number on a sticker on the front of your passport). Then we went through immigration where they took our green cards (from when we came in the country) and stamped our passports. They took the passports and held them all together (they give them back to you on the bus). We loaded up our luggage and headed off. The bus is pleasant, and they give you a sandwich (ham & cheese), a bottle of water, and a juice. After about an hour and a half to two hours we arrived at the border check. They gave us the DR immigration forms to fill out (fill in and keep them for later).The first stop they had us get off and collect our luggage from underneath the bus. They checked each piece of luggage for anything 'bad', and then we loaded it back on the bus. When we got to the border crossing, we all lined up and handed them our passports and immigration forms. They stamped us 'in', and we handed our passports back to the bus attendant. Then we got our bags back out, had them checked again, loaded them back up, and headed off. We finally arrived in SD around 7:30pm (definitely dark out). Taxis are available to take you where you want (we were quoted $10US to Zona Colonial) which seemed reasonable. If you want/need to change money to DOP (Dominican Pesos), money changers get on the bus after crossing the border (we waited to get DOP in SD from an ATM).
Returning was slightly different. It cost us $30US+200DOP per person at the bus station. They still took our passports. The bus was scheduled to leave at 10am (this bus only goes to Tabarre not Petionville - I believe the 8am goes to both), but we left around 10:20am. We got the same sandwich, water, and juice as before. The bus had a flat tire along the way (which delayed us at least an hour). For some reason we had to fill out a new DR immigration form and got stamped 'out' at the border. No bag check this time. On the Haitian side, we filled out another green card and got through immigration with no problem. We arrived in Tabarre (Port-Au-Prince) around 6:15pm.

Oh yeah, the cost of a round trip ticket was $75US per person.
