Please, help me fine tune my itinerary ~

I started a post a while back as I was kicking around ideas for a Puerto Rico vacation in early/mid December. I have firmed it up a bit and would like some input.

We have 8 nights and 7 1/2 days. I have booked the Coral Princess for the first 4 nights. I have a car rental set for 2 days for us to head to Fajardo for 2 days where we want to visit:
Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve and El Yunque Rain Forest.

I thought we would turn the car in and then take the ferry to Vieques for 2 nights. Sadly, we will not be there when the moon co-operates with the Bioluminescent bays. I thought we could kind of chill a bit in Vieques and was hoping not to have to rent a jeep.

We would then take the ferry back to Fajardo on our last day; then take a taxi to the airport and fly home. [4 pm departure].

Does this sound like an efficient use of time?

Should we not bother staying on Vieques and only do it as a day trip? IF so, where can we add those to days - another location or just add a day to San Juan and a day to Fajardo?

IF we do stay the 2 days on Vieques, do we really have to rent a jeep?

I have looked at a variety of places of for Fajardo, including VRBO's, The Fajardo Inn and also looked for places on Vieques. Hacienda Tamarindo looked lovely but they have a 5 night minimum in mid December.

Ideas for places to stay welcomed, as well as if my plan of 4/2/2 makes sense.
