Hello!

I am a college student looking to plan a Spring Break trip from March 14th-March 18th this year, for at least 10 people. I have been researching vacation rentals to accommodate my group, but there are just so many I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Preferably, the rental should be less than $300/night, and within walking distance of the beach, local nightlife, and other cool things to do (as acquiring a rental car is a little too expensive than what we're looking for.) We want to go to the USVI's, rather than a bigger spring break town such as Cancun, because it does not require a passport, and it really is such a beautiful place. (I went there as a child with my family, and it was one of the greatest vacations of my life.)


Rather than go in blindly, I'm looking for a little bit of advice as to what island might be the right choice for my large group, and for any tips you may have for finding that perfect rental within our price range. Are the USVI's even possible with these restrictions? In your experience, have you found that finding a vacation package is more helpful than trying to book everything separately? Likewise, I understand that most people don't want their vacations disrupted by a bunch of college kids, so any suggestions on a more "nightlife"-inspired part of the islands will be more than helpful.

Is your $300/night budget for each person or for your entire group of 10? If the latter than you are going to find it extremely difficult to find anyplace in the Caribbean that can accommodate 10 people for $300/night, except maybe a hostel.

Most vacation rentals that sleep 10 will start at around $1,000 per night and could go up to over $5,000/night. And, NO, you can't rent a relatively lower priced 1 or 2 bedroom condo or villa (designed to sleep 4) and expect to accommodate your entire group by having people sleep on the couches or in sleeping bags on the floor.

Keep in mind that March is still "high season" in the Caribbean so you'll find rentals will be at the top end of the price ranges you might see listed for particular. Finally, how old are the people in your group? Many vacation condos and villas will not rent to people under 21.

You are correct in surmising that the USVI's are not a typical "college spring break" destination so you won't find a light of "wild partying". If you have your mind set on the USVI's I'd suggest you look at St. Thomas, it's the most populated of the USVI's and will have the most activities that appeal to the younger generation. St. John is a very high end island and most places will be way out of your budget. St. Croix is much more rural and may be too "quiet" for your college friends.

The under $300/night is for each person in the group, as we intend to split the overall price between the 10 of us. We definitely want to be more comfortable than sleeping on couches / the floor, as that would certainly put a damper on our experience, let alone be against the rental rules, I'm sure! We're willing to shell out a bit more cash in that regard, but the cheaper the better I always say!

As for the group, most of us are over 21, with maybe one or two being under. So I don't assume it'll be too much of a problem if an over-21 individual makes the reservation and deals with the renter. Hopefully, we can find someone who is willing to accommodate us!

Though we are looking for some fun night-life, the whole "wild-partying" part of spring break has certainly gotten stale, so thank you for your input! I'll absolutely look into St. Thomas, and I'm sure we'll find something fun to do on this amazing island.

That's a decent budget. We stayed at The Buccaneer on St Croix, for $300/night per couple, in oceanfront rooms, including a complete breakfast buffet. Look under my name for details about our visit there. We loved it.
