Susan, It is possible to phone Canada, but I don't know about the U.K. You can't use a calling card and it is very expensive-something like $4.00 Can. per minute.

Susan, I just returned from Cuba and phoning home is a pain in the butt! You can buy a calling card for $10 US that is good for 5 minutes to use in special phone booths. If you called out of our hotel it would cost $4 US per minute ( we wern't staying at your hotel though). There didn't seem to be a way around it - no real public telephones that we could find. I would recommend setting up a schedule for people to call you from home before you leave. Calls from our home in Canada to Cuba were $1.08 Cdn per minute. Best of luck to you.
