Palmas del Mar- How does it rate to other PR options?

We are considering spending 5 nights in Palmas del Mar area. at a rental property. It will be 10 guys and want to make sure we will have enough places in that area to hang out. I’ve read a few posts from 1+ year ago talking about the area becoming depressed with closures and upkeep issues. I’ve also seen 0 forum posts regarding this area recently. I’m getting concerned this isn’t the place for us in PR. Any comments on the current economic and tourist state of the area would be appreciated. Thanks.
