We actually got back in April from the Buccaneer but I am just now getting around to typing up a trip. It was myself, my husband, our 5 year old and our 5 month old. The resort arranged for a cab to pick us up at the airport.
We asked the driver to swing by a grocery store so we could pick up some things. We picked up snacks and water, drinks for the room, I was happy to find organic milk at the store too. We also picked up bread and lunchmeat for sandwiches.
When we arrived the room A/C really wasn't working, with a baby we knew it just wasn't going to work. They were very accomodating and drove us to several different rooms. We ended up staying in the family cottage, it was lovely. It needs updating but you can't beat 2 adjoining spacious rooms with wonderful a/c, each room had a flat screen & dvd player too. The room my daugther slept in was decorated with fish all over the wall, very cute. They also had an alarm on the door in my daughter's room so that was an added bonus.
We hung out on the beach a lot, they did have children's activities on the beach. My daughter particularly loved the crab race. Because we have little ones we knew we would not need a rental car, we just wanted to relax on the beach.
They only served food at one restaurant at the main lobby which got old quickly. We found ourselves ordering extra meals at lunch (from the mermaid restaurant) and bringing it back to our room to put in our fridge and later eat at our leisure in our room.
The breakfast buffett every morning was wonderful and I saw many families bring fruit and cereals to the beach. The views were very nice too. It was a nice, quiet, low key family beach trip in the carribean. I could see us also going back when the kids are older to hike and do other activities, it's great for young and old kids.

I've been wondering about The Buccaneer. It does have a golf course, doesn't it?
We've been to most of the US and British Virgins, but not St. Croix. Seems like you enjoyed it.
