Ottleys/St. Kitts?
I need to book my mid-October honeymoon this week and am seriously leaning towards Ottley's Plantation Inn on St. Kitts. Before yesterday I was about to book Peter Island (although it really exceeds our budget), but I have read on this forum that PIR may not have the service that we're looking for. We definitely want to stay somewhere with good hiking nearby. We also want to relax and have the possibility of snorkling. Privacy (not hearing other people while we are in our room) is also a biggie, as is good food.
I've read all the good stuff about Ottley's, but would love to hear more. Would *really* love to hear anything less positive, so that we're prepared or can change our minds accordingly.
Any other suggestions?

Overall our impression of Ottley's was quite favorable. Great staff, food, ambiance, pool. If you would like some negatives, there are only a few I can come up with. It's a bit isolated from town or other resort areas you might want to visit. We only ended up going into town twice during our week because of the distance involved. We did enjoy our escorted rain forest tour but didn't find a lot of other hiking opportunities nearby. We didn't find the snorkeling to be all that great anywhere on the island. We only ended up snorkeling one time on an organized function that Ottley's put on. We also had to deal with some noisy roosters doing their early morning thing at a nearby farm. They weren't right next door, but still loud enough to be heard. I always travel with earplugs, which took care of the problem. Our visit took place several years ago so the barnyard issue may not be a problem anymore.

We stayed at Ottley's in 03 and thought the rooms were incredible. We stayed in a large, very private room with small lap pool, whirlpool with wonderful views. Beautiful grounds and good food. The owners are also very accommodating and friendly. As the previous poster noted it is not near town but that adds to its beauty. There are not incredible beaches or snorkeling on St. Kitts. We did day trip to Nevis and there are other day trips you can take. Don't know PI so can't comment on it.

Thanks for your replies. I think that its distance from town won't bother us as long as the food there is good--which it sounds like it is.
NM: Do you remember if you stayed in a Royal Suite (the whole cottage) or a Supreme Room (the master bedroom portion of the cottage)? I ask because the Supreme Room is more in our price range and looks fabulous, but I'm a little concerned that we will hear the people in the other room. Do you recall that being an issue? Thanks!

For what it's worth, we stayed in the main building, second floor, with an ocean view. No problem with any neighbor noise. The room was very spacious and had a great view of the grounds and distant ocean.

Been to St. Kitts, the water and the beach are just ok at best, take the boat ride over to Nevis which is pretty cool, it like stepping back in time about 50 years. I rented a jeep and drove around the island for a couple of days, the scenery is very beautiful. You can hike the rain forest and there is this huge Spanish
fort to check out other than that there
is not much else.
