...or Ladera....

Follow-up posting to my last...am interested in Ladera as well, but concerned about cost -- how expensive is it?

Rob: Ladera's rates can be found on its website at www.ladera-resort.com. It depends on when you go and whether it's high season or not, what type of room you opt for, and also whether you get a package, which can lower the cost significantly. When I went a year ago in November 1998 the rate for our room, which was a simple room with a plunge pool (one of the least expensive rooms available, but really lovely), was $190 plus tax, including breakfast. That was the low season rate. (It's the high season now though.) But we got a package through our travel agent for a week's stay that included airfare on American Airlines that made it more affordable. I would call several travel agents if I were you and ask them to price packages at both places. Air Jamaica has been running ads here in the Washington Post for packages out of Baltimore to a whole bunch of different resorts on St. Lucia. And I know others offer them as well.

Cost aside, I would highly recommend Ladera for the incredible views, the location near the Pitons and two gorgeous beaches, the very good restaurant, and the daytrips available nearby (volcano, botanical gardens, hiking to waterfalls, etc.). If it's spa services you want, I'm sure you can get those at Jalousie Hilton which is close to Ladera (with free shuttles between the two).

Rob, I found a fantastic deal for Ladera through my travel agent with air from Miami for four nights, breakfast and dinner, taxes and svc, chgs, no alchohol with meals though...all for $1259 for the both of us! I couldn't belive it. I am going on my honeymoon in April 2000. If you want the name of my agent, let me know.
