Coming in on RC Vision of the Seas on Sat. Dec.4,99'. Husband is recovering from cancer but can get around pretty well. He is Dutch so we are looking forward to seeing the sites and compare them with the real thing. We are 50+ but young at heart. What fun things are there to do and what is the cost? We have to be back on the ship by 4:00pm.?Leaving at 6:00pm. Any help to make our 31 anniversary, one to remember, would be appreciated.
Only 1 day in Curacoa! What to do.

Mary we were also In Curacoa for a day this past Jan. And also on the Vision of the Seas. It is a beautiful ship, by the way. In the morning we took the trolley tour offered by RC. That gave us a look at some of the neighborhoods of the city. We stopped at casino near the canal in a very pretty old hotel. There is an area nearby with some restaurants along the ocean, and we had a very pleasant lunch at one with an outdoor area overlooking the sea.
As most of the ships tours go to the Seaquarium in the morning we felt the afternoon would be best. After a little shopping and strolling around,we took a taxi out there (maybe a 15 min. ride) and arranged for him to pick us up and back to the ship. He was right on time and don't think it was very expensive. The Seaquarium was quite interesting. It actually has areas where the fish or animals are in the ocean water, but in fenced off areas. They do feedings and informational mini "shows". It is quite interesting and one of our friends got quite a kick out of feeding some rather good sized sharks.
If you have any further questions, feel free to Email me. I also have some web sites on Curacoa and may also have a site with all of the tours offered by RC along with itinerary and cost.
One interesting fact I remember about Curacoa...they speak 4 different languages there. I think one or two is hard enough!
Hi Mary - Was in Curacao for a week in early June, so we saw more of the island than'll you'll be able to with just your 1 day stop.
Would 2nd the Seaquarium visit - it really is a nice way to spend a leisurly afternoon. Found the gift shop to be one of the best on the entire island. Downtown Willemstad has some shopping and not much in the way of locally made products. Those can be found in abundance at the Arawak Pottery Factory (on the Otra Banda side-your ship will literally dock right in front of the place). There are some nice eating places in the Waterfort Arches-an easy walk from Willemstad. We enjoyed a couple of lunches at The Grill King-and it offered a spectacular view of the Caribbean-and both the food and service are first rate.
Curacao is very desert like on the interior, and not as lush as other islands. This, plus the fact that the beaches are smaller, cove type rather than long straight ones are negatives to some. Don't look for any fast food places either!
Have fun - e-mail directly if you think of other questions.
Hey Mary: We're on that cruise too!!!Celebrating our 10th (you've got us beat!!)...Go to the RCCL web site and download the tours they have, you get some advance ideas. I am looking for more personal tours/tour companies..if you find anything, please e-mail me back, I will do the same. Hope we run into one another!!!
