Ocho Rios: Couples vs. Royal Plantation?

which would be better? The highest level room at San Souci(Penthouse) vs. one of the 3 entry level rooms at Royal Plantation? Or Tower Isle for that matter or Swept Away in Negril....vs. Royal Plantation. Not just the room but the overall resort as well.

basically for close to same cost you can get top level room at Couples vs. the 3 entry level rooms at Royal Plantation? Anyone stayed at both places and can comment?

The class act there is Jamaica Inn. The least expensive rooms have the most privacy and views, just a smaller balcony (big enough). Very private beach, great food. See www.tripadvisor.com for the consistently best reviews of just about any resort anywhere.

well going by Trip Advisor RP is #1 in Ocho Rios, not to mention generally a top 25 overall in Carribean.

I'm just wondering if the best room at Couples would be better then than the worst room at Royal Plantation? granted they are different resorts. Its probably not a proper comparison

Being a travel agent for 17 years, and also having been to Jamaica 13 times, I felt qualified to comment on this. I have only had great reviews from clients that I have sent to Couples (I can't say the same about Sandals- either loved it or hated it). In my opinion the best Couples resort is Swept Away in Negril. I have stayed in Negril, Ocho, and Montego Bay, and by far Negril is the best. It has the best beaches and also faces west for beautiful sunsets. If you stay at Couples Swept Away, if you want a TV in your room, make sure to get a "verandah room" in the new section. The older section of the hotel is known to have a better ambiance, but they don't offer TV's in the room, if that is important to you. Swept Away also has a huge sports facility across the street from the resort. You can email me if you have any other questions on Jamaica.

we stayed at swept away twice, it is a wonderful place! we also stayed at san souci and couples ocho rios(tower isle)-not so great.the beach at swept is the best, remember, you only sleep in the room-so don't worry about the "best" room. we didn't like staying in the new verandah room at swept, too many steps. you don't go there to watch tv so who cares if there's a tv in your room. you will have a great time wherever you decide to go.
