oceanfront cottage or bungalow in Aruba?
We are planning a trip to Aruba in May and would like to stay someplace other than big chain hotels. Are there timeshares/rentals that have cottages or bungalows on or near the water? Has anyone stayeed at Bucuti Beach bungalows? Are these considered oceanfront? Suggestions??

We just got back from Bucuti two weeks ago, after a wonderful time. We didn't stay in the beachfront bungalows but passed by them every day on our way to the beach. They looked wonderful - you can't get much closer to the beach than that! On the whole, I warmly recommend the Bucuti; VERY friendly staff, definitely NOT a chain-hotel atmosphere, very quiet and yet close enough to plenty of activities. And best of all, on a huge gorgeous beach with lots of space for everybody, so that it never seemed busy even when all the seats were taken. We loved it!

After posting my question, I "found" the Bucuti. It looks wonderful and i sent them an inquiry. Bungalows closed mid May thru the summer! Now we are back searching for something similiar. Suggestions anyone?

I think the bungalows at Bucuti are slightly overrated, and even though we had reserved one, after viewing them, my husband and I decided we would prefer a first-floor oceanfront room with its porch right on the beach. The second- or third-floor suite in the hotel is also an option as it has a nice balcony and a separate kitchen, although the beds directly face the kitchen, which didn't seem very romantic to us. The rooms themselves are not Bucuti's best feature, but we found that didn't matter to us at all -- and believe me, that's a lot to say, because we're used to staying in much more upscale resorts and hotels, and I'm very picky about rooms. I think you will love the Bucuti no matter what type of room you get. The ones facing the garden (north side) are pleasant and peaceful and you can see the ocean from many of them, if that's important to you. We spent virtually no time in our room during the day, so even though it was directly on the beach, that didn't really matter to us.

As far as the bungalows, two of them are considered "beachfront," but one of them faces a huge exhaust fan from the restaurant, and in my opinion the garden-view bungalow is nicer than that one. I totally second your plan to stay away from the big chain hotels. Eagle Beach is incomparable, and I think you will feel truly swept away there, with or without your own private cottage.
