New to forum please give honeymoon destination advice!
Hello Everyone!
My fiancée and I are planning our honeymoon for May 2008 and we'd like to spend a week in the Caribbean. We are looking for a place with gorgeous but not crowded beaches (soft white sand, wide beaches), relaxation, romantic/fine dining, a little bit of nightlife and some snorkeling/horseback riding/fun activitiy We have been looking at pictures and reading on some of the forums but they all look heavenly! Here are our top 4 places:
St. Martin
Turks & Caicos
Barbados
Antigua/Barbuda
Pls give us your opinion on which island would be the best match, and if you have a favorite resort too. Thanks so much!!!

You should also look at Anguilla, St John in the USVI - gorgeous beaches & it is very scenic with views of all USVI & BVI. Also - BVI. My husband & I honeymooned at Peter Island in the BVI. It was heaven. I look forward to going back sometime...(right now we have young children) Without knowing your budget - it is hard to make recommendations for specific resorts. Also - you say little bit of nightlife. Do you mean like casino / big resort nightlife - or local hangout listen to music in smaller venues??

We like both Antigua and Barbados.
Antigua has so many things to see and do. Nelson's Dockyard is like a walk back in time. Shirley Heights is famous for its 6 hour long entertainment schedule on Sundays with live music, dancing and a huge barbeque. The view is great and you can easily see - on a good day, Guadeloupe to the south. It also has the other things you are looking for.
Barabados has the seaside Animal Flower Cave, an opportunity to take long walks along the beaches or seaside horseback rides. You have sandy beaches and turquoise Caribbean waters on the west side of the island, rugged coastline up north, pounding Atlantic surf on the east, and sugar cane fields. You can arrange guided tours at your hotel or explore on your own. Barbados is a foodie heaven when it comes to its restaurants.

Sounds like you're describing Turks & Caicos!!!
12 miles of soft, white sand beach and turquoise waters.
NO crazy nightlift, but fabulous dining.
Horseback riding, snorkeling (3rd largest coral reef system in the world if you're a diver).
I recommend where we've stayed:
Turks & Caicos Club because it's nice, small, next to the snorkeling and totally relaxing. www.turksandcaicosclub.com
Point Grace is lovely, too, but it bit older and more expensive.
Been to Antigua Barbuda and it's fantastic, too, but it's a bit harder to explore the island as it's more mountainous and everything is pretty far apart.

if you go to T&C, Parrot Cay is a must. You will drive past the other cookie cutter resorts in Provo and be glad you're heading to your own private island. A first class resort...Jack Black was there on his honeymoon the last time we were there! Beautiful secluded beach, great food, awesome pool and pool service.
Caneel Bay is another top honeymoon choice! St. John is just lovelY!

as long as we're name dropping doesn't bruce willis have a house on parrot cay??
heat23, grand cayman might suit you well.
of your list barbados is pretty romantic, has so-so snorkeling but all the other things on your list. st. martin is fairly busy & not known for snorkeling. provo has all but the nightlife - with some very good restaurants. and i know nothing about antigua/barbuda.

We chose Virgin Gorda (Little Dix Bay) over Caneel Bay in StJ for our honeymoon. We've now been to both and it certainly depends what you want. VG has fabulous snorkeling (bathes), great fine dining at the resort, half day trip to north side of island for food, Georges Table has fabulous cuisine too.
T&C (Provo) there are only 2 places worthy of staying for a honeymoon, Parrot Cay (very private but too remote for us) or the Regent, which we stayed at. Did a day trip to Parrot Cay and it was Carib Luxury, but still too remote for us. Though I admit we're not going back to T&C as it is too deserty for us with lots of people. VG is a bit deserty but the people and feeling of safety at practically unparalleled anywhere else.
I just did a posting asking for info on Antigua - I heard it was more for tourist than travelers - wonder what that really means...

sofun1: I don't think that many here would agree that there only 2 places worth staying on Turks and Caicos for a honeymoon.
One of the nice things about the island is the variety of lodging options, some more expensive and some reasonable, most of which would make for an excellent honeymoon.
We stayed at the Sands for our honeymoon in 2005 and had a great time. As we were both graduating law school at that time, we did not have the $$$ to stay at Parry Cay, but we nonetheless had a great time.

As another poster mentioned, it sounds like you're describing T&C! My husband and I have been there twice and hope to go back. I think it would be a wonderful place to honeymoon. There is very little nightlife, but there is great dining, snorkeling and beaches. I haven't been to the other destinations on your list, so unfortunately I can't compare T&C to them, but my husband and I agree that we like T&C better than Grand Cayman, Aruba, Bahamas and even Maui.
