Nevis with 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 year olds

We are going to Four Seasons Nevis in early November with our 2 children. My wife is 6 months pregnant. Thanks RoamsAround, cw, WisconsinGal, et al for info posted on mamamo's recent topic, and the child-specific info by RoamsAround and cw in the post from April 2011.

A few questions: We would like to rent a car to explore the island. Any recommendations on which company to go with? And will they likely have car seats available? We would like to explore some of the non-touristy parts of the island. Any spots you think would be good?

Since this will be the tail end of hurricane season, if we get a rainy day or 2, any suggestions on indoor places to go with the kids on those days?

Finally, anyone have experience with a photographer on the island?

Thanks.

When you rent a car as the vendor to give you one of the free road maps or get one from the Concierge at the Four Seasons. It will show all the points of interest on the island. Almost every one of them will be just off or near the main road. Check out the Botanical Gardens, the Sugar Mill Ruins at New River, The Nevisian Village, Peak Haven (sometimes listed as Peak Heaven), the ruins of Fort Hamilton, The Admiral Nelson Museum, the Ruins of the Eden Brown Estate. All will be good for your 5 1/2 YO and your 3 1/2 YO should be able to easily climb around some or all of the ruins with the proper adult supervision. Obviously your wife, in her "delicate condition" will have to decide what activities she is able to handle. For more of what to see/do on the island go to www.nevis1.com - it's the most comprehensive website about Nevis that you'll find - if it isn't listed on that website it doesn't exist.

I wouldn't worry too much about rainy days at the end of November - full days of rain are rare. If they do happen your best bet is to let them go to the Four Seasons "Children's Club" - it is a very good program and will keep them occupied all day long. You might even consider sending them there even if it is not raining. The staff will take good care of the kids while you and the wife enjoy some time alone. There really aren't too many "indoor" activities on Nevis and none that are really "Kid oriented".

For a photographer, get in touch with Mr. Pemberton (sorry can't remember his first name) at Pemberton's Store in Charleston. He does family and wedding photography and is very, very good. Also try Rawling's Photography Store in Stoney Grove , they may be able to help you. Lastly, ask the Concierge at the Four Seasons, they have a couple of photographers they use regularly.

Thanks for the help. Any damage to the island from Hurricane Sandy?

RoamsAround- would you give your email address to Cordelia at FS. I'd like to contact you offline.

Hurricane Sandy did not come anywhere near Nevis. So it had no effect on th island.

We did get some heavy rains and some beach erosion from Rafael a few weeks ago but you'd be hard pressed now to find any evidence that it even paid a visit.

Sorry, I don't give out my email address to anyone on these forums. You can contact me offline by going to the St. Kitts & Nevis Forum on TripAdvisor and sending a PM to me there. Go to any of the recent posts (I've responded to most of them using the screen name "CaribSurfer"). Click on "CaribSurfer" under my Avatar to bring up my profile. On the left side of the page about 1/3 of the way down click on "Send Message".
