Nevis - 12 days!! must sees/dos?

Jump to last reply

We are leaving for Nevis in 12 days! We are staying at Nisbet Plantation. Anyone stay there recently? Comments?
Also are there any must see or do's for the island. We have a car one day and will definitely circle the island. We might be interested in a small hike. Also thinking of doing some kind of boat excursion one day w/snorkeling even though we know Nevis is not known for great snorkeling.

Wow--I wish I were looking forward to a trip to Nevis in 12 days. First of all, I definitely recommend that you rent a car for more than one day. Taxis can add up, and even though Nisbet is wonderful it would be a shame to miss everything else the island offers.

For hiking, try some of the trails at Golden ROck plantation. Stop there for a few hours to have lunch and walk the trails--if you're there in late afternoon you will very likely see the monkeys.

Some time at Pinney's Beach is a must. I especially liked the Killer Bee at Sunshine's.

For local food and a truly warm and inviting atmosphere, Cla-Cha-Del can't be beat.

Montpelier is great for a special dinner in a romantic setting. Fantastic food & service.

We also liked Lover's Beach just south of the airport going west (airport is nearly at the northernmost point of island) for a long uninterruped walk. We didn't see anyone while we were down there.

We didn't have enough time to get to St. Kitts, but we were interested in taking the ferry over and then doing the island tour on the double decker train and maybe having lunch at Golden Lemon. We spent some time walking around Charlestown, poking our heads into various shops.

If you've not already gone there, check out www.nevis1.com for lots of great information on the island. I hope you have a wonderful time. I spent one morning and one afternoon at the Nisbet beach last November and loved it. Good conch fritters and nice rum/blended drink menu and friendly service.

We spent our honeymoon there in July 2002 -- we wish we could go back tomorrow. Everyone at Nisbet is so nice.

I think two days of car is a minimum for a week stay, and you are staying almost two weeks. I would spring for three days of car rental. It's easy to get around the island (basically a ring road) except for town, and I would just drive through that - no need to stop.

Ditto previous post on Golden Rock trail and Pinney's Beach. I would add a picnic lunch at the Botanical Gardens (Nisbet can pack you a lunch), lunch at Oaulie Beach, catamaran snorkelling trip that leaves the Four Seasons and goes to St. Kitts. It is a blast. We had it in our Nisbet honeymoon package.
    Enjoy!
    Jim
