December weather is ideal. When you get off the airplane, pick up a couple of tourist magazines such as Cancun Tips. Some of our favorite restuarants are Captain's Cove, La Dolce Vita, and Maria Bonita(seafood,Italian, and great Mexican, not a taco joint)Excellent website is WWW.Royalresorts.com
Lots of good info. We are returning in November.

I envy you!! Cancun is wonderful for shopping and for eating out. There are several plazas (shopping malls) Flamingo Plaza, Kukulcan Plaza, Plaza Caracol, and Plaza Lagunas. The exchange rate makes everything so affordable. Leather goods, perfume, silver jewelry, liquor, Mexican glassware and hunderds of other items can be had for reasonable prices. Downdtown in Cancun proper is the market place where you can bargain for items. I think that everyone who travels to Cancun trys Captain's Cove at least once. The food is very good, price reasonable and the setting is spectacular. There is a Hard Rock Cafe, a Planet Hollywood, both with good food but can be a bit noisy. Lorenzillo's for fine dining and seafood. It is located across the street from the Continental Villas right on the lagoon. I think that you will find that the people of Cancun very nice and willing to please. At the plazas you will find the best exchange rate for your dollars. To get you started the hotel desk will exchange money for you. Don't exchange huge quantities of money. because in having it changed back into dollars when you are leaving the exchange rate will not be as good as it was dollars to pesos. Right not is a little over 7 pesos for #l.00 U.S.

I would recommend Cancun to anyone, for it has gorgeous beaches, a great nightlife, and is so affordable. My only warning (besides DON'T drink the water) is to be very careful when paying for goods. I have been to Cancun twice, and both times I caught the natives attempting to "cheat" me, as it takes awile to become familiar with the exchange. The talk fast, and try to confuse you on purpose!! This happens in the shops as well as the markets. I caught merchants several times- so I am sure that I was cheated a few times at first. Just take your time when figuring out the exchange, and don't be afraid to use your calculator. The natives love the American dollar, and you can get better deals by using dollars, so don't be too quick to exchange all your money, just use caution. And - always bargain, for taxis, merchandise, anything!!

You HAVE to go to Pericho's for dinner!! It's was SO MUCH fun!! Also, try Iguana Wana for Mexican - great food and drinks. Captain's Cove was good, too. Can't argue with Cat's for Regae, we had a blast. Stayed at Oasis Cancun - loved it! Have fun, we can't wait to go back to Cancun!

Cancun is wonderful! We stayed at the Oasis Cancun the last time we were there (have been there 6 times). The Oasis was fantastic. We stayed all-inclusive and I don't think we would do that again because of the fact that you become "lazy" and don't really want to leave the grounds. Previous trips have been non-all inclusive & found that we did get out more. Would recommend Mr Papa's restaurant at the Plaze Caracol- the waiters there really provide an entertaining evening for guests! It's outdoors and they really get the crowd going! Shooters is also very nice, right on the Lagoon and terrific food. We had a Mexican tour guide who took us right downtown Cancun into the area where the locals live, eat and work. It was really quite an experience! As a matter of fact, one of the kids who works at Mr. Papas was our tour guide. We had a blast. We would not have gone down there by ourselves though! It a wonderful place to explore and sightsee. There is SO much to do and there never seems to be enough time. Going back in Nov 98 and can hardly wait. Have a good time...don't be afraid to ask the locals about things, they can be trickey..but there are some honest ones around!!
