need hotel recommendation for st barts

We are considering a long weekend in St Barts next month and are looking for a hotel recommendation. We would obviously love to stay at a place like Eden Roc but 490 euros per night (for the cheapest room) is a bit much for our budget. Can anyone recommend another hotel on the island that would be similar to Eden Roc but not quite as expensive? We don't have an exact budget as we've just started planning, but we would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks!

Unfortunately all the hotels "similar to Eden Rock" will have prices "similar to Eden Rock". For starters check out:

Le Toiny
Isle de France
Francois Plantation
Hotel Carl Gustave

There are plenty of hotels that are less expensive but you have to make some concessions such as location or amenities. For a list of almost all the hotels and resorts on St. Barts (with price ranges) go to: wwwsbhonline.com and click on the "Where to Stay" link.

I doubt you can get a villa for a long weekend. But there are a handful of cheaper options on St. Barths, though none will be as nice as the Eden Roc. Hotel Le Village St. Jean can be less expensive, but it's still not cheap. Also check out Le P'tit Morne, Les Mouettes, Salines Gardens Cottages, and Le Normandie. These are among the few less expensive properties and all are reviewed in our guide to the Caribbean. Just be aware that you will probably need to rent a car regardless of where you stay, and food is just as expensive as hotels, so budget for all of that.

I tried to find a short term villa rental and could only find 5 night minimum rentals. But if you're booking on short notice, maybe you could find something. In addition to the above suggestions, you may also want to look at Les Ilets de La Plage. Le Christopher hotel has reopened with limited services and is very cheap (for St Barts).

How about Tom Beach Hotel, right on St. Jean Beach? It's just down the beach from Eden Rock. From 21 April the garden room is 290 €. We stayed at Eden Rock a few years ago but often walked down to le Tom for lunch or to go to the bar. It's a fun atmosphere.

Also la Banane, which is in Lorient, but more expensive than Tom Beach Hotel.

We stayed at Emeraude Plage next to Eden Rock and it was fine. Very clean rooms, good service. There is an outdoor kitchen with a fridge, mini stove, sink, appliances...The only area of the concern that I had going in the summer was trying to get all of my long, curly hair dry in the open air bathroom.
I hear what you are saying about prices. We taked St. Barts on to a 2 island tour just to see what it is all about. Loved it. Very chic. With the kitchen, we prepared lunches in and ate out at night. Not breakfast eaters.
A car is a MUST and there are cute little ones for a deal.

I would second the Emeraude Plage as having a great location. Rates will be much lower than Eden Rock for sure. St. Jean area has many choices for restaurants and shops within walking distance and maybe hire a taxi for one day of touring the island. It is nice to have a car but staying at Emeraude Plage it is not mandatory.
