We are planning to take a trip in November or early December. I REALLY want to go to Turks and Caicos but unsure now since Irene just blasted through. My one concern with November is being the tail end of hurricane season and the damage that the island already experienced. Will resorts and hotels be up and fully functional in a few months? This island has attracted me since it has beautiful beaches.
We want to have a close nonstop flight from either Philly or Newark which is another reason why TCI is so attractive to us. We plan on going 6 days/5 nights which is why the short nonstop flight is preferred. I guess other options being close are Bahamas (also got hit by Irene), Jamaica (have been there and not at the top of my list), Cayman, or Aruba. I know Aruba is a longer flight but it tends to be out of the hurricane threat area.
So any insight on the best bet to go that time of year? I know mother nature will do her thing and there is no guarantee what the weather holds for the rest of the season. I really want a beautiful turquiose beach and TCI is really calling me. I know it won't be super warm that time of year but it sure will be warmer than the northeast. Any advice from travelers that have gone to any of those islands that time of year?
Need help again!! Where to go??

We've have been going every year either the first/second week of November or December for the last 10 years. We usually go to Mexico, but have been to Grand Cayman, St. Lucia and Jamaica that time of year. We really had no issues with the weather except in 2005 when we went to St. Lucia right after Hurricane Wilma creamed Mexico. It rained on and off our entire trip, but we still had a great vacation.
We went to Playa del Carmen in 2007 the week after Hurricane Dean hit. The only issues we saw was the water wasn't as clear and there were some things still closed, but again we had a great vacation.
Deciding not to go to T & C in November/December based on the Hurricane for this month should not be a deciding factor. I haven't read what damage it has done, but if it wasn't as devasting as Katrina, Wilma or Rita and no others in that same catagory hit them between now and then, it really shouldn't be an issue. Just buy the hurricane/trip insurance that you can cancel for any reason, and not just if your flight is cancelled or your hotel is closed. It costs more, but it's worth the peace of mind.
Even though Aruba is considered outside of the hurricane belt, the past 2 years around October/November it has had it's share of Tropical storms. By December though I wouldn't worry so much about bad weather.
We are headed back to Jamaica the first week of December and have no qualms about weather issues for that time of year.
provo is fine. resorts are fine. all will be open. book your trip! buy trip insurance on the off chance another storm affects t&c before your dates.
i have a trip booked to san salvador in bahamas for late oct/early nov. it was hit much harder than provo. have already talked to owners of home we're renting. they are in the house right now & they & the house are fine. trees down, shrubs beat up. power & water were off but already restored. they are holding off returning to nyc until after irene goes through
oh - & i've been on provo 3 times in nov. we had outstanding weather all 3 times.
