My wife and I are going to Nassau in a couple weeks. We're staying near the Cable Beach area. I'm
wondering what beaches we can go to to get away from the crowds and at the same time very scenic. Since we're not renting a car, I'm not sure about the best transportation options to out of the way beaches, do buses travel all over the island or could we simply tell the taxi driver to come back at a certain time?
Nassau scenic/secluded beaches?

Take the jitney, which regularly stops at Cable Beach, and head west on West Bay Street. Tell the driver to let you off at the Orange Hill Beach Inn. A nice beach is right there, which rarely has more than 2 people on it. My wife and I snorkeled there many times. You can also walk further west from there to Love Beach, which is just past Compass Point. Actually, from the Orange Hill Beach Inn beach to Love Beach is one long stretch, and is usually uninhabited. Jitneys go from downtown Nassau and back to the downtown area beginning at 7:30AM until 10:00PM. You could easily board a Jitney at Cable Beach, get off at one of the beaches I mentioned, and not wait too long to board another one coming back. All buses pick up across the street, on the beach side, from the Orange Hill Beach Inn sign, but you must wave your arm, or they won't stop. There is no formal bus stop in the Bahamas, just wave and they'll pick you up...anywhere. Have fun! Robert
Robert, how does Love Beach compare to Cable Beach and Lexford Cay Beach? Yes, it may be quietier but is it prettier than Cable? I've only been to Cabbage Beach on Paridise Island on a cruise. Thanks
RichF; Hmmmm...that's a hard one for me. I'd say Cable is prettier, but more crowded. The beach stretch from Orange Hill past Compass Pt. lacks the coconut palms, etc. But, the snorkeling is just as good, if not better. Robert
