Are you looking for a hotel specifically on Paradise Island? I think the British Colonial Hilton may be the only actual beachfront hotel in Nassau itself. Or are you willing to go out to Cable Beach or elsewhere on New Providence?
You can certainly count out the One and Only and almost all of the AIs that are worth staying at. They will be more than $200 per night. even in January. That's a pretty lowball price point, so keep in mind that you get what you pay for.
Atlantis may be running a special then, so you might be able to get a room, but keep in mind that the meals are a real cost at Atlantis and have to be a consideration (you can easily spend $200 per day on food there if you eat all meals at the resort.
Also, keep in mind the temps. Compared to the winter in the U.S., it's great in Nassau, but it can also be cold and wet. I can't swim in the Bahamas in January, but you may be hardier than I am.
I would definitely consider Cable Beach.
I wasn't thinking about AIs. Never been tempted to stay at one.
Are you totally locked in to Nassau? The weather can be cold & windy as Doug said above.
We've been to both Paradise Island and Cable Beach at the end of Feb.--some years warm enough, some years just plain cold.
That said, Cable Beach has some nice resorts and a gorgeous beach. I almost prefer this beach to the one at Atlantis on Paradise Island.
On Paradise Island, Expedia shows Comfort Suites at $220 a night from Sun. thru Wed. going up to $260 on Thurs. thru Sat. at the beginning of Jan.
This resort is across the street from Atlantis and has full Atlantis resort privileges. Also has breakfast included next to the CS pool. We've stayed here several times and it's a very short walk across the street to the Atlantis grounds--ask for a room in the back where there is an outside stairway closer to Atlantis than the entrance of CS.
