MIM and Nevisian - question about rain on Nevis in June
Hi,
We are contemplating a 10 day trip to Nevis in mid/late June and my research has shown that this is the rainiest month of the year.
So my question is - What can we expect in the terms of rain? Lots of short rainbursts, days of clouded skies or a couple of days of rain.
Don't get me wrong I love the rain and if it's warm enough I'm happy to take a dip in the sea while it rains, so realistically I'm just wondering if I need to pack my umbrella
We visited last year in May and had a couple of 5 minute showers - not enough to make us leave the beach though
We are pretty restricted to the dates 6/16-6/26 since it's our 25th wedding anniversay (otherwise we would go earlier) and my birthday. I'm just trying to find the best island and resort to celebrate both occasions on.

oooh, alya, I hope that you and your husband get to go to Nevis in June! No Aruba combo this time?
Statistcally speaking, June should have the scattered showers and short cloubdbursts intermingled with lots of sunshine, but as marymarra has just reported, unseasonal prolonged periods of rain can happen at any time, even on the drier islands.
are you nisbet bound this time?

Actually June is some of the nicest weather of the year. Rain, if it does come is in the form of very brief and very localized showers. Most of it is up in the rainforest.
You can see for yourself be researching actual June weather by day for the pass 10 years by going to www.wunderground.com
Type the lettrts NEV in the airport code box.
Scroll down to the box marked History & Almanac. Click June and the year you want to check. Then click the "month display. You'll see what it did weatherwise every day for that month. For example, in June 2006 even though it rained somewhere on the island on 8 different days there was actuall no messurable accumulation at the weather station during the entire moth.

alya... Sorry that I am not MIM or Nevisian, but we have been to St. Kitts and Nevis for the last two years in late June and leaving in early July (have booked the 3rd time for the same months coming up). We have had no problem with rain. Any showers that come up disappear very quickly. I have yet to pack an umbrella. Part of the days were cloudy but the sun quickly came out!
So, you are looking for a resort..We stay at Oualie Beach Hotel....resort? No, but very friendly and comfortable, if you get the premier room. A bargain as compared to the Four Seasons, which is beautiful, just not us.( We do the 4 and 5 star for our birthdays, and while the 4S rooms are lovely, the cheapest one at $450/night did not grab me) I hear that Nesbit is very nice, as well.
Background on us: When we travel, we seem to visit several different islands on the same trip and like to stay in a variety of hotels...This time it is again, Oualie in Nevis, then St. Kitts Marriott and on to St. Barths.
There are so many wonderful locations in Nevis...I am sure that you will have a great time!

Alya, I cannot answer your rain question either, but check out Hurricane Cove Bungalows, located above Oalie Beach. We rented a budget-priced villa, but if I went again, that's where I'd stay!

We are booked to stay at Nisbet again, when we researched resorts and thought about the places we have stayed in the last few years and enjoyed (Idle Awhile, Jamaica Inn, Bucuti Beach, Coral Gardens) Nisbet came to the top of the list in everything except snorkeling.
We loved the resort last year and while we are concerned about going back to a resort we have previously visited my instinct is that we will enjoy it more now we know what to expect.
We have requested the room we had last year but, if we don't get it? That won't be a problem, so the weather was our only concern. DH even thinks that he won't get to restless if we hire a car and visit other resorts/restaurants for lunch during our stay.
So... hotel is booked, flights are booked, Hotel for the night before and parking for our stay is booked using buyreservations.com - this is my first time using this website so I'll let you know how it goes.
All we need to do now is pack the suitcases and go to Santarpio's the night before we leave to eat pizza and BBQ - this has become a routine with us, I'm not sure I could visit the caribbean without visiting there first
Joan - those bungalows look wonderful but too far from the beach for us I'm afraid.
iw - We did visit 4S last year for a drink and would never stay somewhere that large, we love the smaller resorts, I think Bucuti is the largest we have stayed at. We appear to be there at the same time so if you see a short blonde(ish) Brit with an umbrella you'll know it's me

Alya, I figured you'd be heading back to Nisbet. It's such a pleasant place, and for what you're looking for it's really the only place on Nevis.
I love your pre-trip tradition with the pizza in Boston--my husband and I have a similar one with a restaurant not far from the airport in Hartford. It just wouldn't feel like a trip to the Caribbean if we didn't eat there the night before and stay at the dumpy little motel near the airport with free parking!
Thanks for asking about my brother, but sadly he and his fiancee postponed their wedding indefinitely. He's going through a tremendously difficult time right now, I'm sorry to say.

I'm sorry to hear the news but I do know 2 couples who were not brave enough to call off a wedding due to the "What will people think" syndrome.
2 miserable marriages and 2 very bitter divorces.

I just found this querry. ...sorry that I didn't respond but the answers you got were right on the money. I like it best when the rain comes right at bedtime and we go to sleep with the rain on the roof. There is a wet and dry side to the island. The 4S and Charlestown are on the dry side (so to speak) and Brick Kiln and Zetlands are on the wetter side (the mountain gets in the way). If you do get a daytime rain shower it usualy doesn't last long and the golfers and beach bums just stay out in it. You will also find that the air currents around the mountain cause it to rain in Charlestown and not in Jessups Village! Go figure. I've see wet pavement stop and dry pavement begin with a definite demarkation. Then again, three years ago it rained intollerably! You are on your vacation by now and I hope that you will post the outcome for all of us.
