Milestone anniversary celebration for a couple who never travels
We are a couple in our late 40's who rarely travel. We are planning to celebrate our 25th anniversary with a trip to a resort in August. We know it's not the ideal time to go to a resort but it's the only time we can go without the kids. WHERE should we go? We are considering a cruise to Bermuda.
or an all inclusive resort somewhere in the Caribbean. We don't want to go on a trip with tons of kids. We just want to relax and enjoy a gorgeous beach and setting, yet we don't want to go somewhere so hot we can't enjoy being outside. We don't do much in the way of sports, but would enjoy some entertainment. Help, we don't get many chances for a once in a lifetime trip.

Caneel Bay in St.John. It has many private beaches and many places to eat right there. They also have taxi services if you end up wanting to tour or explore. The island is small and quiet. The locals are wonderful and you won't feel intimidated at all to go into town at night and just walk around! Good Luck and have fun!

Considering you want to travel during hurricane season I would stay out of the hurricane belt. I would recommend Aruba. Bucuti is a European-style low-rise resort for adults. It is romantic & Eagle Beach is ranked amongst the top 5 in the world. We were there September 2004, let me know if you want more info.

I also vote for Aruba and Bucuti beach. We stayed in there last June for my 40th birthday. Make sure you pay the extra for the Tara suites - we loved the resort, gorgeous clean well appointed rooms, pleasant staff, nice large sandy beach adjacent to the hotel, plenty of palapas and since Bucuti discourage children it's a good place to go when you're leaving yours at home. The weather was wonderful a nice sea breeze means that it's not unpleasant to sit outside even when the temps are in the 80's and it keeps the bugs away. Make sure you wear a high factor suncream, even without sitting out in the sun you will still get a tan.
Lots of good restaurants within easy reach for all budgets (from Dunkin donuts within walking distance to all the more upmarket restaurants that people recommend on this board) - the general view is that Aruba isn't a place to do AI since there are so many good restaurants to try. You shouldn't worry about safety either this is one of the most crime-free islands. Try using the buses they are regular, inexpensive and clean used by both locals and vacationeers.
Have a wonderful time where ever you choose.

I say go to Bermuda and not by cruise. It is a beautiful island and is mostly an adult destination. We have taken our kids, but it is a honeymooner and anniversary destination. There is a small hotel called the Reefs. Breakfast and Dinner come with your room price. There is tea time in the afternoon that serves cakes. You must buy your beverages seperate and lunch is seperate.
Bermuda is a class act. Now, if you want to totally avoid hurricanes, I agree that Aruba is a great destination. We went there and loved it, but it is definitely not as pretty. Bermuda is an island with very little poverty. It has little pink houses and a cute town. You can ride the public buses or be daring and rent mopeds! The food is very good too.
Aruba has good food and is also a nice place. They are just different.

Bermuda is unique - is definitely a top choice for romance - the island is prettier than you can imagine, full of flowers, colour, pink sand and incredible shades of turquoise & blue water. It is enchanting, full of charm, nobody nagging you to buy stuff on the beach - ever, nice variety of restaurants, shopping and ferry rides. I honeymooned there and simply do not want to go anywhere else now. I wouldn't take a cruise - enjoy the Bermudian hospitality at a resort instead. Pompano, The Reefs and Cambridge Beaches are among the favourites. Congrats!

If you're wondering what the deal is about Bucuti beach check out the reviews on tripadvisor.com
I'm not sure that I'd book a trip (especially one that should be really memorable) without checking out other peoples experiences

Another vote for Bermuda. It's a great choice for a first island/very special trip and the weather in August is wonderful, as opposed to other times of the year when it is too cool for the beach. I agree, to really experience the island, visit for 7 days not just on a cruise.

Another vote for Bermuda! My husband and I went for our honeymoon last August - and I cannot wait to go back one day. I agree that a cruise is not the way to go. I don't think you'll get a real feel for the island unless you stay there. We stayed at The Reefs, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. We did the 'dine around' meal plan, but also ate off the resort several times. The island is so friendly and clean. We've been thinking about where we want to go for our 1 year anniversary, but I can't find any place that compares to Bermuda. Plus, I didn't feel there were too many kids - except when we went to the Dockyards...but the children were mostly from a cruise ship that had docked.
Definitely think about Bermuda - you will love it!

Bermuda has wonderful restaurants and is an easy flight. If you're seriously thinking a cruise, check into the Radisson Navigator. They dock in Bermuda for three days - Friday, Sat and Sun - when other cruise ships aren't allowed in. You can eat whenever you want, as a couple or with others, the food is spectacular and dinner includes free wine/cocktails.

The weather will be milder in Bermuda and it definitely a more adult experience.
I, however, think a cruise would be perfect. It is effortless and, if you pick the right line, elegant.
I would suggest Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, or, if you want an older crowd, HAL.

I go with Bermuda, too!!! My husband and I went there on out 10th anniv (during May,in season) and absolutely loved it. Clean, safe, friendly, gorgeous beaches. (I left my camera in a cab and the driver brought it back the next morning to our hotel.) Pompano Beach or the Reefs are beautiful hotels. Don't cruise there, we left from Boston and the flight is only over an hour. August is in season and will be warm there then. Happy Anniv, enjoy!

Bermuda....anyway you can...cruise or fly...Cruising is far less expensive and you might want to see if Radisson is going.. I know Princess is.. Sadly, beautiful Bermuda is changing and I'd like to take one or two more trips (we have done ten so far)....
