Mexico or Carib during hurricane season?

Jump to last reply

Ok the planning for this end of the summer trip has taken me all around this site so far, As som may have read I was concerned about traveling around late august to late september (depending on certain packages I might be willing to go during October as well. I am looking for a place that is very relaxing, and beautiful- not too hectic and slow paced. Money is a concern, and at the same time a place that will statistically be safe during hurricane season. So my dillema now is Mexico, Cancun, Playa del carmen or Carribean Aruba, Bonaire, Curaco...any feedback on these places will br great.

    Hi ,
We've been to both Cancun and Aruba in October. Love both .
Problem is ...Almost hit 3 different years by hurricans in Cancun. The beach really was ripped up & everybody was unable to swim in rough waters with black warning flags posted. Oh, the beautiful Cancun Omni hotel's beach restaurant and beach bar flooded so that we were unable to utilize those two great parts of the hotel also. We finally decided last year to do Aruba. We went to Aruba's Palm Beach and stayed at the *Occidental* all-inclusive hotel in the high rise section where there is a beach sidewalk is that you can walk from hotel to hotel at night. Aruba is out of hurrican belt and hardly ever rains there! Weather was perfect ! Ocean is incredibly calm! So calm that you can get a float and float around all day. Just use SUNSCREEN! Sun stronger then Cancun. Cancun ocean is very rough and strong under currant so be careful if you do go there. We never missed Cancun and enjoyed the all-inclusive package at the Occidental hotel just as much as the Cancun Omni's all-inclusive.
I have some Aruba pics if you e-mail me at crk10@sbcglobal.net I will send them e-mail to ya. Husband and I are returning to Aruba this Oct 22nd. Aruba is very safe island and I like the fact you can walk the beach at night without worry. Not in Cancun. Be happy to answer any other questions . If you do go to cancun the Omni Hotel is place to go. Good luck. Carla Mom of 10 great kids.
