Has anyone stayed recently at the Melia Varadero? What can you tell me about the beach (I assume one can walk a fair distnce on this stip of beach); rooms - size and comfort - I believe they all have balconies; food, especially the a la carte restaurants; and especially, the water? Can one drink the water (or is bottled water the only safe way to go), use the ice, eat the salad greens, raw veggies, etc.
Thanks. The last question is really the most important.

Scuba diving is so so in the area.
