My wife and I are leaving February 23rd for a 2 week vacation at the Melia Varadero. We have booked (and paid for) a room with an ocean view. Will we get it? It is my understanding that rooms in the hallways with tile (versus carpet)have undergone renovation and therefore 'better'. Which wings of the hotel have been renovated? Is there a particular wing and/or room number I should try to get? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Stayed here over Christmas 2003. We booked oceanview and got it. Yes, the hallways with tiles have the renovated rooms and they are very nice, murals on walls, marble tiles. Every floor has some renovated rooms so it s not as if they did one floor at a time. Also the renovated rooms are actually called oceanview deluxe.I did not see the other rooms ,but the carpeted hallways, did look tired and old. For some reason many people seemed to want to be relocated from the 3rd floor. We met 3 couples who said they asked to be relocated from 3 to our floor as they did not like rooms and view.We were on the top floor, 7 ,I think it was.So, I guess when you check in, avoid the 3rd. floor and ask for deluxe oceanview if you did not already book it.Do try the paella in the garden its a wonderful spot to have lunch.Whole grilled fish at the beach grill was awesome too when on the menu.Lobster at seafood and international restaurants.Have a great time.
