Has anyone stayed at this hotel recently? We are interested in any comments.
Does anyone know of any orphanages or homes for children, as we are taking things with us that may be useful, and whilst we'll use some of them to aknowledge good service in the hotel, we'd also like to give some things to people who may have greater need than the hotel employees.

hi muriel...was at the melia rio de oro last march-april...about 3 and a half months after the hotel's opening. By far the best place to stay in Guadalarvaca-holguin. Great lodging, nice big rooms, excellent food (oysters, smoked slamon etc everynight) great entertaining, pool, shows at night and beach), great service...I too took clothes and stuff along ...which I managed to distribute while in Santiago on a day trip or via people met there...Ask your guide at the hotel..they often live there and know the Cuban people which are very proud...The girls which ddo your room or serve you at the restaurants will alwauys be happy to receive a lipstick or eyeshadow...in any case, be asured that anything you bring down there will benefit someone in Cuba...
Have a good time...
Dominique
Dominique:
Thank you so much for your reply. I've sent an e-mail also. From your experience, do you know if the Cubans can accept American coinage? I know they accept bills!
The lipsticks are bought and some nail varnish (amongst many other things!
Thanks again
