Looking for a warm locale, week after Christmas, don't want to break the bank

We're a family of 4 (2 girls 16, 20) and looking for a nice resort, peaceful, clean, good food. Any help would be appreciated. Looked at Turks & Caicos and the airfare from NY is $1600+ per person -- Yikes!!!

In order to make any meaningful recommendation we need to know how "strong your bank is" otherwise there's no way we know what will "break your bank".

Give us a budget range in dollars for what you can spend on airfare, accommodations, food and excursions otherwise we are just guessing at what you can afford.

FYI - the week after Christmas is one of the most expensive times in the Caribbean. Also, T&C's are an expensive destination.

FYI - look at resorts in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Cozumel - they are among the least expensive destinations in the Caribbean.

The last sentence of the post above covers it. Those are the less expensive places. That said airfare is usually higher around the holidays regardless of where you're going.

If you can wait until after New Year's, you might find it easier to finance. Instead of a hotel, what about a condo with 2 bedrooms? You can fix meals as you'd like and it would give you more space. On St Thomas there are several condo resorts that might fit your needs.;-)

Wow - where are you getting an airfare price of 1600 per person to T&C?

While certainly not INEXPENSIVE, there seem to be flights out the NY area for prices in the 700's (Non stop United on 12/29 from EWR) per person for the week after Christmas. That would be about 3k. T&C has 1 bedroom condos (with Sofa beds ) with a kitchen that might be less than 2 hotel rooms at Christmas and you could save a bit by eating some meals in. Both Ocean Club and Royal West Indies come in at about 4k for a week (Travelocity has an extra 10% off right now and is just an example). So there is about 7k, leaving 3k for the other fun stuff and food.

T&C is not an economy destination, but it sure is nice and I think you could do it with careful planning

Turks caicos may be cool at Christmas. I think they are a little north, like the Bahamas. Still it will be warmer than NY.
Christmas is such an expensive week. If you can go a few days later and have your 16 year old miss a day or two of school, you may be able to get the first week of Jan which will be cheaper rates.
I feel your pain about the airfares. It is expensive to travel as a family of four! I am shocked NY airfares are so high. We fly out of Richmond and they are always high!
