We are in our early 50's and have been offered to take up a temporary job (3 years) in St Maarten.I will be making a trip there to check ou the place but some input would bbe nice. I know that this is a travel board but HELP!!! is needed.
Hardward shops, General goods, supermarkets, hospitals etc. I HAVE looked at the St Maarten sites but most are for the tourist and not actually from someone living there. Thanks

You should post this at www.TravelTalkOnline.com. I think there are a couple of people who either live there now or have lived there in the past. They may be able to provide the sort of information you need.
This board may also help provide some answers. It's the message board for the SXM newspaper.

Beware! You may get some bad advice from travelers on this board who hate St. Martin. You said you will be visiting there and I would think that that would be the best way to check it out. By doing so you will be able to make up your own mind since everyone seems to have a different idea and criteria of what constitutes a great vacation destination, or, for that matter, great place to live. Whatever happens, good luck!
I've visited St. Maarten for the past 3 years and am going for 2 weeks in Sept. Each time, we meet people from the states who have relocated there and they all love it.
The owner of "Everyting Cool" in Phillipsburg is from Connecticut; the owner of Lee's is from New Jersey, the owner of another restaurant in Phillipsburg (I forget the name) is from somewhere in the NY metropolitan area. Another couple from NJ have a beach stand at Orient Beach (look for the license plates!). If you talk to these people, they all say they LOVE St. Maaren. Also, we met a couple at the Royal Palm time share who spend 6 mos. a year there!! So they must love it too! Good Luck.
