Little Dix Bay - Outstanding!

I have recently returned from my third trp to Little Dix Bay and it was fantastic. I took the air shuttle from St. Thomas to the Virgin Gorda airport, where I was warmly greeted, and which was a great beginning to a wonderful trip. Within minutes I was on the gotgeous Little Dix grounds with its masses of flowering trees and flowers and the intoxicatibng aroma of their perfume. It was like arriving in heaven
My room, an ocean cottage was spacious, with beatiful decor. It had three closets and the bathroom contained two vanities and both an indoor and outdoor shower Surrounded by tropical trees and plants filled with sweet sounds of songbirds, it is situated in a garden setting for optimum privacy, but still gives a beatiful view of the beatiful white sand trimmed sea.
Food was excellent. The executive chef is from Holland and his chief assistant is from Indonesia which give menu choices an international fudsion which appeals to sophisticated fine dining tastes and is far superior to the franchise/fast food type that too frequently can be found in lessor establishments. The Caribbean Grand Buffet had a sumptious array of choices that would appeal to any palate, and the Aisian Buffet had foods representing five countries. It was like taking a culinary tour of the Far East and was exocticly delicious.

Activities- every one of my seven days were fun filled. I enjoyed a complimentary snorkel tour, and two in one day boat drops. The first was to Mountain Trunk Beach for snorkeling, and the other to Savannah Bay Beach with its magazine cover beauty where I strolled the long sandy beach and enjoyed a tasty picnic lunch. Another day, I was picked up from the boat dock by Dive BVI for a day trip to Anagada Island. With its quaint shops and restaurants serving picnic bench lunches, pristine beaches, it felt like stepping into island life a hundred years ago. Not to be missed is the Spring Bay picnic. Guests are boated to Spring Bay Beach which adjoins the Baths and is a mini version of it. I enjoyed snorkling and seeing the massive bolder formations jetting from the ocean floor and then wading and sitting in a clear blue inland pond, which had been rimmed by giant blue umbrellas providing shade, listening to the strands of music from the steel band and enjoying the aroma of the grilled food lunch being prepared. It was definitely first rate. Also not to be missed is the manager's party. Held around the gorgeous poo, as soft glowing lights flickered on the water, it was as if escaping reality and slipping into a beautiful movie scene as drinks and appetizers were being served.
Staff - Simply wonderful. So many people did so many kind and special things for me, that it made me feel very special and that I was among family and friends.

It was the best vacation ever, and I can hardly wait to return which I plan to do in November

Sounds like you had a wonderful time, thenks for writing. It has been a nice change having some BVI trip reports lately. One of these days, I MUST get to Anegada at least for a day trip. It's not one of the easiest places to get to which makes it all the more intriguing. It can't be done as a day trip from the USVI's due to ferry times/customs.

Glad you had a nice time and have fun planning your return.

Thanks for the great trip report - - did you request a specific type of room when you made your reservation? If so, would you recommend it compared to their other options? We're thinking of going next spring.

We have been to LDB and now are going to Caneel.

We had room 25 or something right on the beach, I think it was a duplex...one floor 2 rooms 10 feet from sand..I became a certified diver there with Dive BVI.

Food was good and so was service..its a very quiet place but when we went they had a small band playing by the bar, that seemed just perfect at the time.

We loved it and still rates at the top of my wifes vaction list.

Not much in the way of snorkeling but beach and water are fabulous!!!My wife does not dive but we do like to snorkel together so that is why we are going to Caneel. I have read that the beaches will match most any in the world and having Cruz Bay 5 minutes away with so many dinning choices is a plus..

Bottom line..you will not be disappointed..Remember LDB and Caneel are very simple..no FS or Ritz here just good clean rooms on the beach...

Alos..check in for the room is done on the boat coming over from Tortola which was fun and easy so went you hit the landing you are taken right to your room!!

My first stay I was in Premium Ocean View; the past two stays, I was in the Ocean Cottage Premium Ocean View was veery lovely, and closer to the dining area It was just a few steps further to the beach than my ocean cottage, but its location was on the side of the cresent beach where the water was shallow and not conducive to snorkeling. Ocean Cottage was not far from the boat dock and was more luxurious. I particularly loved the outdoor shower and the garden setting. I made friends with a couple who had a treetop cottage next to mine. By being up higher, they said that they loved the view, and their location was relatively the same as mine. If there are no budgetary concerns, my choice would be ocean cottage; however, if by staying in Premium Ocean View wold allow for more days, that would be my choice. I met one man who loved his villa which was very close to the main area. I felt that it did not offer as much privacy as my room, but it all depends what you happen to like.
I have stayed at Caneel ten times. In fact, in November, I plan to spend eight days at Little Dix and then boat over to Caneel to join my family for four days. While I agree that Caneel's off beach snorkeling is very special, it is my feeling that the close proximity of other snorkeling spots( The Indians was the best that I ever experienced), day trip adventures, beauty, food, boat drops compensate for that. I feel that Little Dix is superior to St. Thomas Ritz, but again, it is all a matter of individual taste.
I think it is great that so many thoughts are expressed so that others can best decide what is best for them.

Diane,

Thanks for great information. Do you think the food at dinner is better at Little Dix?

Yes, especially with the addition of the new executive chef.
