Letovah Villa in Bequia - Don't let the website fool you!!

We were very very disappointed - to the point where we had to move before the week was up. If you are thinking of renting this villa please don't let the website fool you - i have a list of 15 or so things that should have been either repaired or cleaned prior to our arrival. For the amount of $ we paid for this week - you would think the housekeeper would have at least prepared it for our arrival. It was dirty, things were broken and we were stuck - the owner was not returning our calls and the manager did nothing... what a waste of hard earned money..

Sorry that you had a bad time with your villa. Did you like Bequia after you changed accommodations?

If you'd like to be helpful to future travelers, it would be probably be better to give very specific examples of what was wrong with the villa. Otherwise people might think that as a first time poster you just have an axe to grind.

Thx for the reply.. We would have loved to explore Bequia more and had intended to stay a full week but could not find accommodation - villa were already rented and some hotels where closed so we left the island.

Here are a few specifics..

This was our 12th time staying in a villa in the Caribbean so are familiar with what to expect. This house in Bequia was a disappointment and from the website we had expected it to the the highlight of our trip. The house was not ready for Rental. Here is a short list of Items that should of been dealt with before our arrival.

Master Bathroom light did not work - this was unacceptable to have someone occupy this house with this not working - you couldn't use this bathroom after dark for sure and it was dull during the day. The biggest disappointment was you knew of this in May 2009 and did nothing.

Umbrella –no shade -we couldn’t enjoy your deck because there was no shade if needed. There were two umbrellas in the storage room I asked if we could use one and was told – NO - and we couldn't set them up as we could find no stands.

Dishwasher did not work - again another item in the house that did not work. When I’m on vacation I don’t expect to wash my dishes and pots and pans.

Large lamp in main area of the house with no light shade on it just a bulb -When we walked past the sofa at night time we had to be careful not to burn our self on the hot light bulb and it just looked ugly.

Toaster in Kitchen - Only heats up on one side (and no it didn't have a bagel button).

Spider cobwebs - On the Kitchen fixtures - Cleaning should have taken place before our arrival.

Spare Bedroom Fan - Fan was all rusty and the front cover fell off and could not be put back on. We accepted that this villa had no air conditioning so we were counting on fans when sleeping.

Outside table -The outside table is badly weathered. Needed to be re varnished - We never sat at it as we thought we might get a wood sliver.

Linens in Kitchen were questionable - the few linens appeared to have be washed many times and well used.

Pool Light not working - Again would not have been a big deal alone but this is just one more example of an item not working with no plans to fix it as it has been broke for some time we're told.

Dead bugs in light above the stove - If you have someone cleaning the house before paying customers arrive then the house should be cleaned.

I should not have to stay in someone’s dirty house.
There were items under the main coffee table, under the counters and around the counter in the Kitchen not cleaned.

Spare bedroom plug does not work - I plugged a fan into the spare bedroom and the outlet did not work. In fact the plug would only go in half way.

All Chrome fixtures were rusty - it appears the house has been let go and the chrome fixtures are rusting especially in the master bathroom. Salt air from the ocean rusts metal fixtures and constant cleaning is necessary.

Spare bedroom toilet running on and uses water.
I was constantly checking to make sure the spare bedroom toilet was working correctly. When the toilet is flushed it does not stop running I would take the top off and adjust the linkage to be sure it had stopped and wasn’t using water as we understand rainwater is used in Bequai.

As you can see from our list we were VERY DISAPPOINTED with this villa. We paid a lot of money to stay at this well advertised villa.

Sounds like a really miserable experience. I hope you were able to get some restitution for your complaints and leaving early. Is there a website for the villa?

Just returned from a fantastic week at Letovah villa in Bequia. We have been to more than a dozen places in the Carribean, incuding some of the top-ranked resorts, but never have seen the type of view we got from every room of Letovah. The house straddles the top of a hill overlooking Port Elizabeth bay on one side (with all the sailboats and yachts anchored), and the Atlantic with a view to Mustique on the other. The place was in great condition and we certainly had no issues whatsoever involving cleanliness or any appliance or plumbing not working. Both the garden and the house are maintained by extremely competent and friendly staff and they were around for any questions we had. The housekeeper was also happy to help with breakfasts and is an excellent cook. I really can't recommend the place enough.

looks like our posting was beneficial to your trip - your welcome

And we never had a problem with the view.. it was the housekeeping and maintenance..

There was a big spread on Letovah Villa in a recent issue of MACO magazine. It certainly made it look like THE place. Thanks for your honest review -- it helps others.
