L'Esplanade Hotel-St. Marten?
Has anyone gone to this hotel or know anyone that went here? What was it like? How is the beach that it is located on? Did you need a rental car? Thanks a bunch!

L'Esplanade is a beautiful hotel located on a hill overlooking the water and the village of Grand Case. The rooms are very nice and the grounds are lovely. the beach is a nice beach but I believe you have to walk down the hill to get to it..you are not on beach level.
I had dinenr last night with friends who are staying at L"Esplanade and they absolutely love it there...
The village of Grand Case is a lovely quaint little village lined with gourmet French restaurants
I would definitely advise renting a car..
the island has many beaches, many restaurants, casinos and a lot to do in general.. the best way to get around is by rental car.

Agree with above posting. We stayed there a few years ago and loved it. It is a short walk to the beach. All of the restaurants in Grand Case are within walking distance. I'd also recommend a rental car. We upgraded to one of the larger rooms for our stay. Probably wasn't necessary. I looked at the other rooms after our arrival. They were all nice and equally furnished, just not as large. Staff was also very helpful. I'd definitely stay there again.

Thank you so much for your response. You mentioned that the restaurants are within walking distance, I am very happy to hear that. As far as rental car goes, do you think one day is sufficient or do you suggest a week. Thanks again.

I would suggest renting a car for most of the time you are there.
Most visitors do. they go to different beaches, they explore Marigot and Philipsburg, they go to the Maho area, etc.
there is so much to see and do...
Perhaps you could try it for 2 or 3 days and then see if you want to extend it.

Barabara1. Thank you for your detailed responses. I actually looked at your previous posts and received some valuable information. I think that we will be renting a car for the whole week. It will give us the option to come and go as we please and it is relatively inexpensive. $200/week. We haven't had much experience with French food, what are some "Do not miss restaurants" in your opinion. Sue

the whole village of Grand case is lined with fabulous restaurnats
first of all, be sure to eat at the lo los.... they are little local places where you can get the best ribs, chicken, fish and they are very cheap..
for great dining in Grand case,,and NOT cheap, I recommend Le tastevin on the water and across the street Le Auberge Gourmand. There are many others but I love these two.
For Italian, try Spiga in Grand case or Le Gondola on the Dutch side at the Atlantis Casino.
also Lee's Place in Simpson bay is great for fresh fish and ribs.
right now the dollar is low against the euro so dining on the frnch side can be more expensive.
in Marigot, I like le Plongoir on the waterfront and Tropicana in the Port Royale Marina.
enjoy!

I agree with Barbara again concerning the car rental. Go for the week. There's enough to see and do all over the island that make it worthwhile. The Hotel itself is a good source for restaurant recommendations. We ate at perhaps five different restaurants in Grand Case and enjoyed all of them. We also drove into Marigot for dinner on two nights. The restaurants in Grand Case all so close to each other that you can walk down the street comparing menus and ambiance. We picked out the ones that looked good to us and made reservations for later in the week for the ones that required it. There was one restaurant that we wanted to get to and didn't. I believe it was called "The Pirate" near the police station in Grand Case. It looks like a shack from the outside but the food and atmosphere looked like it would really be a fun place to dine. Check it out.
