Through reading the posts, I am convinced that we will be happy at this hotel for our honeymoon. Our decicion now is the type of room. We would appreciate some feedback on the "Standard Cottage" vs. the "Deluxe Cottage" - is the extra $100 or so a night worth it? What is the difference (size? location? amenities?). Thanks!

You will LOVE this place -- we have stayed in both the standard terrace cottage & the deluxe cottage. I wouldn't stay in the garden cottage as the views are not as wonderful but we only stayed in the deluxe because we had one of the kids with us -- it's basically a 2-bedroom unit with nothing else special about it. We loved our terrace cottages & spent a lot of our time on the deck where the outdoor kitchen is. Be sure & tell them you're on your honeymoon & they'll get you into the best of the lot. The views are fabulous & the walk down the hill to the beach is an adventure in itself.
We stayed at VSJ in April beacause our usual place was full, Garden cottage. NO view, AC untits right next to the deck. VERY small outside kitchen. Annoying 10% service fee on anything they did for you. Overpriced, restaurant with uncaring waitstaff. Noisy above and below. Steep inconvenient walk to the beach. I know this place has a following but I'm not certain why. Spoke to honeymooners a couple of weeks ago on a return trip who said they loved St. Barts but would never go back to VSJ. If you are firm on here pay extra for a better room. Better yet consider a private villa or a hotel with a little more privacy. Also see if they have non-smoking rooms, and get ALL the fees settled in advance, especially if they book a snorkeling trip for you how much it will really cost, so your trip will not be tarnished. You WILL love St. Barts!
We stayed at the VSJ in June and it was very nice. We had a "deluxe cottage", which had a terrific view and was nicely equipped including a small kitchen outside, which was great for whipping up breakfast's ect.
The VSJ threw in a free jeep for the week so we never walked on the STEEP hill up to the hotel. The place is very quiet, and is only for those who are looking for that, they also have some boogie boards, books, and beach umbrellas you can borrow for the beaches, our favorite was saline, but all the others are great too.
St. Bart's is the best, we hope to go back in Nov.
The VSJ's Italian restaurant is closed for the summer, try Andy's Hideaway in St. Jean, great food and very reasonable for St. Bart's.
