layover hotels in San Juan Purerico and Florida
So I am going to BVI in may and have overnite layovers in Miami and San Juan.
I am looking for a clean safe mid range accomidations. We have a couple of hours in San Juan 10:30 flight.
Any ideas would be apperciated, I am hooping to stay close to the airports.

There is a Best Western right in the airport in San Juan. The rooms are teeny weeny, but clean and convenient. If you are looking for more than just a place to lay your head, there is a wide range of hotels just a few minutes away in Isla Verde.
There is also a hotel in the Miami airport, but I've not stayed there myself, so can't vouch for it. When I've laid over overnight in Miami, I've stayed at the airport Marriott (close, standard Marriott quality) as well other properties further away for lengthier overnight layovers. There are plenty of hotels near MIA.

When I have overnight layovers near major airports, I use Priceline to get a room. I bid on rooms with a minimum of 3.5 stars, so I can be assured of an on site restaurant and bar.
Usually, I can get a Sheraton/Hyatt/Marriott type property for US$60-70.00 a night.
Unfortunately, my overnight next week in Miami is the same night as the Orange Bowl, had to go up to $90.00 to get a room, Doubletree. Still not a bad price, and it isn't a bad hotel. We stayed there a couple of weeks ago on our way to Curacao, it was cheaper then.....

As one not to head to the large resorts or chain hotels, we stayed in a little local place twice - one night each time- coming and going through SJU. It was maybe 10 minutes from the airport but just more low key and relaxing to us. Not nearly so fine as some of the larger properties but I would take it over the airport hotel- www.trespalmasinn.com
I am not sure I understood the part about the few hours in SJ but we had some time there before flying out (to Culebra) and took a cab to Old Town and wandered around the forts and the city for a few hours and really enjoyed it. On the return we had time only to go to dinner nearby and sit in the hot tub for a while contemplating the palm trees and the ocean.
Just a suggestion...

If you bid on a hotel on Priceline, you will usually pay a bit more than half the rack rate. You do not know which hotel you are bidding on, you bid a certain number of stars in a certain area of a city.
I usually don't stay at large chain hotels either. The exception is a short overnight layover. I just want a place with a shuttle to get me to and from the airport and a bar and restaurant for drinks and dinner.
