How much sailing knowledge do you need? I have sailed catamarans and would like to take my family on a boat for a couple weeks. I can take lessons here in L.A. but I don't know how proficient I need to be.
Did you hire a cook or do it yourselves?
Do you get stir crazy on a small boat for that long?
Maybe this is a stupid question, but what about pirates? not Captain Hook, but just people who want to rob you?
Hi John:
Yes I thinkyou can do it yourselves!
We had 2 guys with alot of experience along. I'd feel comfortable if I had at least 2 (You & your wife?) who at least knew the basics. In addition to learning the mechanics of the boat, spend some time on reading maps and charts as there are plenty of hazzards that need to be avoided; pirates are the least of them, but if you use common sense about where and how you tie up for the evening, I think you'll be fine. We cooked on board, and it's nice to be able to go ashore every now and then for a meal to get some local color. So do get some more lessons, include your wife, and have a great time!
