Just Got Back

I just returned from our 10 day honeymoon in Barbados!!!! Oh My Gosh! It was perfect. Here's a rundown of where we stayed, what we did.. Should you need any info, post it here and I'll check back regularly. My husband and I stayed at Reeds House (No. 5).. It was very nice. The beach is not the best, but good enough to hang there a day or so.. and the rest of the trip, we went to other beaches. Our villa was a 2/2 with a 2-person tub.. a jacuzzi pool.. and our own Cook.. Who whipped up yummy omlettes, french toast, bacon etc for breakfast, and whatever we wanted for lunch or dinner (We picked dinner mostly.. Went grocery shopping the first day and that helped save cash on eating out in Barbados which can be a little pricey.) It was very intimate, quiet, private..just perfect and the right price for what we wanted.

On the Beach end of things, we had a car and got to explore..Mullins and Accra are our two top choices (Mullins on the upper West Coast and Accra on the South) ..

Restaurants.. Had lunch at Mannie's Suga Suga (good food, but kind of expensive.. I think, should memory serve me correctly, about $60 US for lunch--burgers and such-- but it's right on Mullins beach so it's very relaxing).. The Cliff (Very Expensive, but excellent food worth every cent.. and a ton of ambience).. Calabaza (Again, killer ambience and food AND less expensive than Cliff).. Cafe Sol (My husband is Mexican.. We were not impressed at all with Cafe Sol) .. Pisces (Good Food, Good prices.. You can't go wrong) .. and Bellinis Trattoria.. Italian food.. good food good prices.. another nice find (By the way, the last 3 are all in St. Lawrence Gap.. about a 20-30 minute drive from the West Coast, depending on where you're staying)..

As for Tours, if you have a rainy day, the Mount Gay Rum Distillery is okay (Although the day we picked, the barreling end of it was closed).. We went on the Tiami (with about 60 other people). Pretty good buffet lunch and a great time swimming with Turtles (Make sure you take the earlier of the cruises.. I hear the later in the day, the less likely you might see turtles cause by then they're done eating!) .. And the best one of all was the Grenadines Getaway through Chantours! Expensive, but worth every single penny. 3 Island stops in the Grenadines, on a catamaran with maximum 12 people.. great buffet lunch.. Absolutely Perfect.. It's a long day (we were picked up at 6-30 am and didn't get home till 9 pm) but very very well worth it. I highly recommend it.

I hated to leave Barbados. It's a beautiful country.. nice, warm people. I can see why Lois on this board has made umpteen trips back. My husband and I are certainly looking to return, soon!

Hi,

I enjoyed reading your comments. It's always interesting to hear what someone enjoyed.

I see that you stayed at Reeds House No. 5. What do you mean 2/2?

I'm curious about the beach there -- we checked it out one time and I vaguely remember lots of rocks and not much useable beach. Also, did you have a plunge pool? From what we saw of a couple it appeared you could just stand in it. I'm just wondering about recommending it to others. Currently I mention it in my tips sheet, but caution people about the beach not being too great.

Hi Lois..Sorry I haven't gotten back to you.. It's been crazy.. 2/2 meant a 2 bedroom/2 bath villa.. and the beach was VERY rocky. But, there is a nice little path that we were able to walk into to and just hang there.. which ended up being a nice spot for a couple of early/late afternoon swims.. Overall, I would NOT recommend the beach there, but would highly recommend staying at the villa if you're into driving around the island in search of good beaches.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the beach was not very good from what I remembered. It's good to know the accommodation was great in case someone doesn't mind driving to other beaches.

My husband and I are planning a trip to Barbados in Nov. to stay at the Amaryllis Beach Resort. We came across a pretty decent airfare and resort package. Does anyone have an opinion on this resort? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
