Beginning last October, we started checking travel sites and getting ideas on where, when and what. After months of research we had a 2 page spreadsheet that included 5 or 6 places to stay with all relevant information, prices, location, amenities etc. Then a family member said they had stayed at Newstead Belmont Hills and recommended it. So out went the spreadsheets and brochures.
If you can't trust family; who can you trust. So at the end of Feb we made our reservations.
After receiving our reservation confirmation I contacted Paula at Newstead's Concierge Desk with a few questions. It turned out to be a few weeks worth of questions. Thru Paula I was able to arrange everything from flowers in our room, to dinner, to golf, to airport transport. You name it and Paula was able to find it, arrange it, recommend or reserve it.
Newstead Belmont:
Paula set up the airport transport and we were the first stop. Lucky us!
Studio deluxe room overlooking the harbour. End suite in one of the cottages.
Inside, the bed was comfortable. We a little kitchen area and a large, spacious bathroom. (personal note: in order to get into the shower/tub you needed to step in. The step-in was at least 15 inches high which makes it a little tricky - if you don't have a shower mat, call for one right away. Don't try to "make due" as it's difficult if the tub is wet even with the grab bar)
Anyway. It got even better outside the room. 2 patios with chairs and table on each plus a chaise lounge on the grass. Un-obstructed view of Hamilton, day or nite. Resort's shuttle to Hamilton is just on the other side of the infinity pool. Btw, if you go to the pool make sure you speak to Charles. Not only does he keep the beer cold and towels at the ready but is a great source of information.
Every person greets you with a "good morning" or "good afternoon" so you can't help
but being in a good mood while you're there. Need a taxi - make a quick call to the desk.
Also, there are quite a few steps depending on which building you stay in and several that lead to the water shuttle.
Dining:
Sun:
Dinner at Blu almost every table has a great view
Mon:
Lunch at Newstead's Pool
Dinner at Pickled Onion - request a balcony table overlooking Front Street
Tues:
Lunch at Blu after a round of golf
Dinner at Beau Rivage - Went with Beef Wellington (recommended by frequent guest).
Worth mentioning as it was the only meal that wasn't seafood
Wed:
Lunch at Mickey's Beach Bistro&Bar (Elbow Beach) - Bermuda Fish Burger (very good!)
Dinner at Barracuda Grill - Rum Swizzle and Dark n Stormy's went with an
excellent Bermuda Fish Chowder.
Thurs:
Lunch at Newstead's Pool Bar (after golf again)
Dinner at Splendido - view overlooking Elbow Beach resort and ocean. Enjoyed
the whole place but didn't need 3 different waiters asking if we wanted fresh
pepper.
Please feel free to ask any questions....
I can also offer a golfer's opinion on the Belmont Hills Course for those interested.
Bottom line is was can't wait to return.
Will post a link when pictures are ready. Profile has a picture of the birdcage.
