January Beach Break

College student looking for a beach reprieve for January. Traveling with a friend and looking to the Carribbean. Wondering about St. Lucia. Want safe environment, all-inclusive package would be nice. Found a place called Coconut Bay Resort and Spa which is in Sarvannes Bay on the south coast about a mile from the Hewanorra airport. Price looks good just not sure if it is too remote and don't know anything about the island. Food, drinks activities are included. Any advise? Not looking to go to Mexico, Dominican Republic or Jamaica but open to other areas. Traveling from the Northeast and trying to stay under $1,200 per person for 5 days including air faire.

Although I've never been to Turks and Caicos, part of the reason is that it's pretty far north, as is 21 degrees latitude. Might be cold in January.

I've read to be more certain of warm weather, you should head south of 17 degrees.

St. Lucia is 13 degrees. Based on that alone, I'd head to St. Lucia.

St Lucia and T &C are complete opposites of each other, and neither island you tagged are really known for AIs.

I've been to T & C the last 11 January's and the weather is usually scrumptious. Overall you are talking about 2-3 degrees average difference. St Lucia is hilly and green, meaning while warmer better chance of rain. Provo is flat and dry and the beaches are spectacular.

Having said that, your post is extremely vague, to get a better sence to help you, plase tell us more

You have eliminated the best, least expensive AI destinations in the Caribbean. Outside of Mexico, Jamaica and the DR, AI's are few and far between. Many will just have a food/beverage plan and not the additional AI inclusives the typical AI resorts have.

I don't know specifically about the Coconut Bay resort except that 1/2 the resort is family and the other 1/2 is adults only. You might check Trip Advisor for current reviews and pictures.

I don't know where you are flying from, but air from most US departure points to St. Lucia are very expensive. I'm not sure that your $2,400 budget for air and hotel will be enough for St. Lucia. Have you checked on some on-line booking sites and priced out a vacation?

Turks & Cacios has 3 AI resorts. Beaches, which is super family friendly, the Veranda, which your $2,400 budget will more than likely not cover and Club Med, which gets highly questionalbe reviews.

Additionally, January is considered high season, so prices can be very high compared to other months. However, you still may find some good deals. I would suggest that you start pricing the areas that your are interested in and see what's actually available. You might have to change your destination or increase your budget.

You might want to check out this site for a list of AI hotels in the Caribbean. http://www.allinclusiveoutlet.com/

Your information is very helpful. Thank you all. This is the first time going to the Carribbean. So I am feeling my way and have spent incredible time trying to find what will work for us. Trouble is budget, being a college student there is a limit. Trying to please my parents too who are not fond of Mexico, Jamaica or Dominican Republic. Safety is a concern especially since we are only two traveling rather than a group and its our first time going.

We would be very happy to find a place that's on a beautiful beach that does offer entertainment at night, bars, music etc. We are juniors in college so needs to be age appropriate. Don't need all the activities that Club Med would offer but we are not looking for a quiet resort either.

We are looking to stay only 5 days or so so originally we were trying to make the flight not too long. But taking the advise on January temperatures maybe we should look at Aruba too.
KVR will try the all inclusive website you recommended too. Have been using Book.it on line so glad qwovadis, glad to see you mention them. I'm hoping their reliable.

Jean H, will take that information into account. Thanks.

Balmona, since the budget is limited we would be happy to stay on resort and not do lots of touring, exploring this time. Just want to get to the beach, water and sun. Beach is very important as is security/safety and most all inclusives allow us not to have to hire cabs and find restaurants etc.

A little town that may be safe to walk around and look at some shops could be nice too but definitely not essential. Hope that helps.

Thanks again.

I'm going to steer your towards Playa del Carmen, Mexico because it is everything you stated you are looking for. Beach, entertainment, shopping, off property activities, will be within your budget and it's SAFE. Been going for the last 10 years.

Look at the Royal Playa del Carmen. It's an adults only AI (not couples only). It sits on a nice section of beach and is a 5 minute walk to clubs, bars, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. There is tour desk within the hotel that will set you up with off site tours for snorkeling, bar hops, clubs/discos, eco parks and Mayan Ruins, so you don't have to spend the entire time on your resort.

Do not let hype, news media and word of mouth from people who have no clue steer you away from a perfectly great vacation destination.

We have been to Aruba and loved it, but the hotels that offer AI type accomendations were way over $2,400 and we went in low season.

Other booking sites to compare prices include: Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, CheapCaribbean, and beachdestinations.com

Check out my Mexico pics and see for yourself that it's a great, very safe destination. Just use common sense, don't go wild and don't get overly intoxicated. Something you should always consider no matter where you go.

If still not interested, up your budget to $3,000 for the both of you and more things will probably be available.

I agree with KVR - Playa del Carmen can easily be done at an AI with your budget and has what you are seeking. You'll find lots of couple close to your age group which is an added plus. Don't discount this part of Mexico.

I can understand your parents trying to dissuade you from Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic but by doing so they are eliminating 95% of the AI's in the Caribbean that are within your price range. You might want to rethink your plans.
